This is by ways of reciprocicity; When John Budney fixed up my Op Pro problem I posted a note on the Gretsch Discussion Page about Ovations great customer support.

I recently took delivery of Gretsch G6120SSU (Nashville Hollowbody with Brian Setzer improvements). The bridge pickup didn't work and could not be fixed; it is a TV Jones classic

Both Gretsch and TV Jones when approached were very quick to offer to remedy the situation.

So I think good news about Guitar companies in this ruthless GC MF world should be spread about.

I love Gretsch hollow-bodies, nothing says rock-a-billy like one of those. One is definitely high on my must have list. It's good to hear the company stands behind them.

I've often said that I'd never take out a loan for a guitar. If I can't afford it, I don't need it.

But a Gretsch Setzer Hot Rod I would do. Especially now that I hear that.

Hobie - my bank manager thanks you for sharing that...

I have an old Gretsch Country Gent from the early 1970s. Sweet sound, very rockabilly, but the box is huge, and a lot of vibrato use seems to take it out of tune more quickly than the Strats and Jags. Someday, I intend to pick up a newer version of the same guitar in the Junior version, but there are at least nine guitars ahead of it on my GAS relief list.

I think gretch has good customer service because they have practice. Everyone I know who has bought these guitars has sent them back. I'm happy it worked out though.

There's three different Gretsch's:

1) Gretsch USA
2) Gretsch (Fender)
3) Gretsch Drums (Kaman)

Now isn't that synchronicitous; a bloke over at Gretsch Pages said exactly the same thing about ovations when I was extolling the customer support I got; small world!!!! LOL

OK, I know 3 people who bought a Gretsch and returned it, and with Hobie, that's now 4. I'll find out if it's the fender one or the Usa one. I know they were expensive.

But I didn't return it; the pickup was dead because the wire off the coil was broken.

Apart from that in the week I had my hands on it I couldn't detect any problems. I was very impressed with the build quality and finish. The tech informs me that the electric harness and pots are of a very high standard.

In fact just on the neck pup it was gorgeous

So the count goes back to 3.

Then I am advised, from all the incidental discussion of it at GDP there is pre FMIC who have apparently improved quality remarkably. I guess it would be usefull to know when these 3 were made.

But hey, who needs a competition b/w guitar manufactures. I see that there are so many great guitars around. We live in great times for buying these things is my impression as a relative newbie to playing.

I could n`t agree more , guitar companies the world over are making fine instruments ,at afordable prices, however as I was driving over a bumpy road today,my 1618 while being in it`s original case wich was lying on the bed (I drive a camper)had it`s battery box knocked off, wich means that I will have to take the strings off, replace the box,and restring ,it`s a twelve string ...sooo I really wish this battery box arrangement was more thought out,it shows that there still is room for improvement. :)
