I am currently trying to scrape up funds to upgrade my Celeb Deluxe Bass to an American-made model.(and Keller doesn't want to get rid of his big blue Adamas for anything less than a Mercedes) I am looking at a used, but nice looking custom ordered Model B778 with abalone around the top edge and a deep bowl. Does anyone know much about this model? I've checked out the O-website and I know they usually come with the mid-depth bowl. Any ideas of how much more it's worth with the extra features? And if it would sound that much (noticeably) better?

Not sure about the model you are talking about but a Viper Bass like Paul Wagner plays (check out the sound clip he posted) sure sounds mighty good.

I like the viper, but it's just a little too flashy for the church venue in which I play. I can just see some little old lady walking up to me on Sunday morning and telling me how much the flames remind her of hell :)

The one I'm looking at is simular to the other non-celebrity model on the Ovation web site, but it has a deep bowl and abalone inlay around the top.

The Viper doesn't have the flames.

You're thinking of the NikkiSixx Elite T.

The Viper bass is REALLY nice!!!

The Custom B778 sounds like a sweet bass. Of course, I am partial to abalone. ;) I personally think with a bass, the deeper the bowl the better. I don't know how much more the extra features are worth, but to me, it would be and extra couple of hundred or so. And it would be nice to be able to play it acoustically sometimes.

I have a Viper bass. In a word, NICE! But it has to be plugged in for anything other than silent practice. It's really an electric bass which uses a piezo under saddle pickup.

Typhoon?

It's very nice but obviously has to be plugged.
