I posted this in another thread, but didn't stir much interest...so I'll rephrase it:

Does anyone have an Adamas Premier 1680 and/or have compared it to a Ute side by side?

I played the 1680 in a store and loved it, but was trying to get a comparable to the U681T since they are so similar yet largely different prices.

Anyone?

Play the 1680 just before you come to Portland and then you can play my Ute there. You may be the first to have played both.

For while it looked like the 1680 was the one I was going to end up ordering. But then a UTE became availible.
I have not played a 1680 and I have not see one at the factory.

Mark, great idea. If they still have it, I'll try that. I'm really curious to see how close they compare.

ask the store to let you borrow it for the weekend and promise a review when you return.

heh heh....I am sure they will go for that!

Or hell, just buy the damn thing and if you like the ute better, return the 1680 to the store when you get back. Almost all of them have the 30 day money back guarantee. That way you can get a real comparison.

I played the 1680 Briefly at NAMM. It sounded allot like it, but I wouldn't sell my U681T to get one. The price difference hardly seems worth it. The VIP-5, and the suspension ring top mounting (like the Adamas 1 & 2 Reissues) adds allot of cost/labor. The oiled neck is great, but many people didn't care for the epaulets. IMHO, They are paternal twins, different, but the same. I'm reminded that the U681T was a limited edition run. The 1680 Premier and the 2080 are supposed to be production guitars. We collectively own about 20% of the U681Ts (I don't believe 100 were made), and not one of us owns a 1680. Go figure.

I got a chance at NAMM but not in a quiet room...it is a great guitar, still projected over a noisy hall. And, I have the UTE. As to the comparison, like them both. However, confident that I would take the Ute over the 1680. Hard to beat the textured top.

Disregarding the upgrade in pre-amp, I would look for the UTE (used or old stock). It is that good.

The 1680 is worth the price but the UTE is one of the best deals that I have seen come out of the factory. New, there is about a $1,000 difference. If you can't find a Ute, then either spend more for a 47RI (acoustic) or the 1680.

The only reason I may consider selling my Ute is that I will probably get two of the 47RI. I would never sell it for a 1680.

I've had my UTE for a few weeks now. I'm just starting to get used to how to play it. Big, big sound...but very clear.
