What condition is it in? Finish cracks? Wood cracks? Fret wear? Electronics work?

 | Hi Stan,
I have had a 1983 model 1663 for over 10 years now, and it remains one of my favorite Ovation classicals. You are correct in the fact that there is little information on this particular model because it was manufactured for only a couple of years (1983-84). The only information in print is the 1983 Ovation Information bulletin, as it is no longer listed by 1984.

The 1663 was one of the first Ovation cutaways, and is the forerunner to the 1763, with the only basic difference being the gloss lacquer finished neck on the 1663 as opposed to the satin finish on the 1763. I have always preferred the gloss lacquer necks, and have bonded with very few Ovations that do not have the gloss lacquer neck.

Value is always subjective, but in mint condition the 1663 (with OHSC) should bring $450 - $600 on eBay, perhaps a bit more in a guitar shop.

 | The linked photo by "dvd" is exactly like mine. In fact the case is just like the one peeking out of the right side of the photo. It's condition is excellent. I'm not going to sell mine. I wanted an update for my house insurance because my son is beginning to play my guitars and anything can happen! I also have a Martin D-18 and a 1960ish Fender Mustang.

 Thanks everyone for your help.
