Location: Tennessee | A sympathetic nod to our Arizona brethren ... it has been crazy hot in the SF Bay Area. Here in El Ramon, a record high of 109 on Friday, another record high of 111 yesterday, and who knows what today will bring but it's already 95 at 0930. Our average summer temps are the high 80s. The good news: yes, I have a pool. The bad news: it is drained and out of service as the renovation has been underway for three weeks. A/C? Haha, surely you jest! This is the coast ... we don't have A/C except in malls, movie theaters, and new homes.
I know a lot of other spots around the country are baking, too. How's life in your neck of the woods? If you have some cool air to spare, please send it west. |

It's not better in Europe.
Last week, we've had between 95 and 100 in Paris during 5 days!!
Unfortunately, I don't have A/C or a pool and the temperature is always near 86 night and day in my small flat!!!
You can easily imagine what it can be because Paris is not Arizona... :D
When you're outside, the air is so hot that it's hard to breath.
In 2003, we've had the same weather during 3 weeks and more than 10 000 people have died during this period in the entire country.
We were not ready to have such a hot summer and all the hospitals were completely full and busy!!
At this time, its good to be a tourist in Paris but surely not to be at work.
I've seen on TV that it's the same in Germany, Holland and UK.
I'm seriously thinking to emigrate in Alaska!!! :D

This was last September 27, and the humidity was about 85%.
There's no such thing as a house without a/c down here, and its a constant chore to keep the condensation drip pans draining freely so they don't overflow! |

Since I have to work outside, jeans, shirt, boots, hardhat and harness I've had about enough of this crap!!!! I get home in the A/C and I don't want to move. The humidity is a frekin killer, I like the heat out west...93 with like 6% humidity. I think I'll move to Arizona! |

Location: Scotland | It's pretty bad over here too. At last nights gig I was melting. It was so hot my shirt was wringing wet half way through the first set. A huge bead of sweat dropped from my forehead directly onto the preamp of my Nylon Viper, then halfway through the next song the guitar cut out. Managed to get through the rest of the set with mando, Weissenborn replica and dulcimer, but didn't make the connection between the droplet of sweat and the preamp failure. AS a long shot I sprayed the controls with electrolube and it cameback to life.
That afternoon we played a festival and when I took the nylon Viper from the case I found I had a broken D string. I changed the string but didn't feel confident using it because nylon strings take so long to settle and we were due onstage within minutes. A guy in the previous band graciously offered me his Martin, a triple 0 16 with a Fishman blender system onboard. Nice guitar apart from the wussy extra-light strings, but could I hell get a decent sound out it. Sounded fine for back-up but as soon as I took a solo it had the typical thin gutless piezo clank I detest. |

The sun finally came out yesterday afternoon, so we packed the beach-bag with a bottle of coconut rum (from the cruise) and some ice, and went to the town pool till it closed at 8pm.
My heart goes out to the 20-30,000 (if not more) people in Queens, NY who've been without electricity for 5-6 DAYS. The ancient, underground "feeder" cables literally FRIED and have to be dug up, cut-out and replaced. The intermittent storms aren't helping, as they're flooding-out the manholes . . . |

But for me 24/7 mine are in the basement next to a dehumidifier, which is nice and cool, probably why my strings last so long as my fingers won't sweat when I play down there ;) |

Bad News: Central A/C unit "went South".
Good News: It was covered by our AmericanHomeShield policy.
Bad News: It took about 6 weeks to build a custom unit to replace the one GE doesn't make anymore.
Good News: It only cost us $50 for the replacement.
Needless t'say there were a lot of fans whirling around at our place, a lot of time spent at the pool, and a lot of time walking around the house naked . . .
(btw: I HIGHLY recommend AmericanHomeShield) |

I went for a swim in the pool last night (with a swimsuit, Cliff) and the water was almost too warm. |

I had the same thing happen last weekend. Except it was the living room ceiling. At first I was angry, but then I said, it's only time and money. And that made me feel depressed. But then I said this would be unlivable, like living in cave, which fit my mood. It reminded me of my friend who bought a place that had black painted ceilings, walls and floors. That made me laugh. So another day later, and a few bills lighter, the ceiling is now a cheerful "sunbeam yellow." These things happen. |

I painted the kitchen last year for "the boss" and the color was just not growing on us like we had hoped. Lasted a week and it was of to the store for a new color! Things were much more to our liking after the second try :)
BTW: Does anyone know a rain dance, This heat and humidity is getting old  Tired of running the AC and having to water the garden! Can't wait to see the utility bills this month  |

I just finished a total remodel of our basement bath :) I put in a pine car siding ceiling that is really an eye catcher! People comment on how nice it is all the time, finish nailer and some quality varnish and your all set  New tiled shower, sheetrock and a good coat of white paint. My wife is going to hang some netting on the ceiling and hang some fishing lures, seashells and whatnot to create a seside look :D Plenty of things to look at when you forget your reading materials! Actually, I can blame it on a paint chip that I saw in a local hdwr. store that looks aLOT like the top of my Adamas (that hangs right outside my bathroom door) . . . it even has shiny little gold "flecks" in it!!
What sucks is that last year I had gutted the bathroom, repainted it, and installed a four-foot-long, three-door medicine cabinet/light fixture.
Since it's my personal "loo", I wanted t'do an "Adamas-motif", and Jeanette concurred, but I couldn't find the right paint in time, and opted for some color (that I don't really like) in order to just "get it done".
Now, I'll have to dismantle everything if I wanna repaint it . . . .

Location: NJ | I went to get my oil changed at the local Kwiky-Lube-It-All place.
As I pulled in, my digital themometer said 109.
As the limp dishrag that changed my oil brought my car around, I pressed a 10-spot upon him and said "Hydrate Yourself".
It's supposed t'be worse tomorrow.
I've arranged to take the afternoon "off", and meeting Jeanette at the town pool (after filling the cooler with a batch of Absolut RubyRed Grapefruit martooni's . . . .) |

Location: Tennessee | My heart goes out to you all. We had ten days of incredible heat, highlighted with five straight days of 109 or higher. But we've settled back to normal ... days in the low 80's (with about 30% humidity) and nights in the high 50's (with humidity around 65%) ... gotta love that marine layer.
Hang in there ... it will end ... sometime ... |

Location: Houston, Texas | Guys, I've lived in Houston most of my life, but I've gotta say that I'm just astounded at the temperatures all across the nation this year. Especially so far north. We've had just a warm summer so far with only one day over 101 (back in May) and most of the days around 92 to 96. Most summers we get up to about 102-105 several times and of course always high humidity. We get used to it, but you guys are really suffering this summer, and I know that you all aren't used to it.
We actually had one day last week where the high was only about 78, but of course we had close to four inches of rain that day.
What the hell is going on????????????????? |

Location: SoCal | In SoCal, our problem was a High over Southern Nevada blocking the coastal breeze...so high humidity (at least for San Diego). Last two days, back to about 76-78. All of the hotels are booked solid, many Arizona license plates. |

Finally bearable up here; lower humidity, highs of about 76.
I don't know what's been causing it this year, but it's definitely bad. I grew up around Death Valley, CA, so I was used to 125 in the shade (if you can find any), but after 15 years here I wasn't prepared for 100 degree heat, or the 85% humidity. We usually only get a few hot days a year, and even then it's only up to the low nineties.
I talked to my brother in Wisconsin yesterday...high of 113 with 80% humidity. Yuck! |

Location: Budd Lake, NJ | Here in New Jersey it's like walking around inside a hot, damp washcloth. The "girls" aren't especially enjoying it, even with the central air. When the strings of your 5-string bass won't hold pitch, you know it's miserable outside. Oh well, at least this isn't the tropics, where it's like this all the time (when it isn't monsoon season.)

The girls: Gertrude (G-1111-4), Jewel (CE868LX-4), Blanca (Viper 1271 Natural), the anonymous Tornado (still in the naming process), Sugar (Steinberger 5-string bass), Plink (Galiano mandolin), Twang (Vega 5-string banjo) and Shriek (fiddle of uncertain antecedents) |

Unless she mentions letting the puppies out for fresh air...
