Location: NJ | In order to quell the whining, crying, kvetching, and general Pissing&Moaning that IS David Witko, a NorthEast Region OFC Gathering has been established to coincide with MasterWitko’s visit here.
When: Saturday, September 16th. 1:00p.m. until a “reasonable hour”
Note: “Reasonability” oft-times takes on a “sliding scale”.
Where: A private residence that has been offered up by a Gracious & Lovely benefactor.
Complete Address/Directions will be provided, but for the sake of calculating “Travel Time”, base the destination in the vicinity of Asbury Park, NJ (No! . . . it’s NOT at Springsteen’s house!!!)
What: Food, Drink, Guitars, Laughter (repeated as needed).
Limousine parking will be available (however, the TourBus “staging area” will be a block away . . .
. . . and due to residential noise ordinances, helicopters ARE discouraged . . .sorry.)
It is hoped that the truckloads of sand (from the local beach) can be poured for the floor of the “TikiDome” (now under construction) in time, but that all hinges upon the “purchase price” of the local Zoning Commisioner . . .
And yes, there WILL in fact be a “Llama Shampooing Booth” (for those who’ve asked . . .)
How: If you DO in fact plan on attending, please e-mail me at adamas54@aol.com with “NorthEastOFC” in the title.
Location address and detailed directions will be provided. The necessary “HeadCount” will be based on these responses, so PLEASE respond only if you ARE going to attend (and how many will be coming).
Please Note that there WILL be a pair of rather large, imposing, scimitar-wielding Nubian guards at the gate, and anyone not on “TheList” will in fact be turned away (in pieces of varying sizes).
Please plan on bringing an adequate amount of “Drinkie-Poo” (of your choice) to amply “lubricate” yourself for the event yet allow you to make the trip back home safely (and legally). You’re all Adults(?), you figure it out . . .
If need be, you will be notified if particular foodstuffs may be needed (we’re trying t’keep this from turning into PastaSaladFest ’06) so for the time being, just “BeverageUp”.
It has been the hopes that the location will provide a goodly amount of people from various locales to get together with a reasonable amount of travel (and donations to Bush’s Retirement Fund).
It is hoped that it can be convenient for you.
If Not: “. . You can Please SOME of the People, SOME of the Time . . . and Jerk the Rest Off . .” – Robin Williams.
Hope to see you there. |

I'll break out a brand new Taytor t-shirt just for the occasion. Actually that's no joke, I'll probably bring my sons Taylor with me from the city. Please let me return it good shape, he's just a kid who doesn't know better.
Dave
PS Cliff, I need a shipping address to send out some stage props. Pretty big crate this time, might have to go by Orange Freight. |

If you'd rather not tote a guitar, I would be glad to loan you either Jewel or Gertrude. I know that they're not Adamas, but Gertrude is a grand old lady to play. :-)
Cliff--I will let Robbie and Mike know about the get-together, too; we'll get you a head count as soon as possible.

PS Or if you are passing thru Brooklyn on the way, and want to share the gas and ride in your car, let me know. |

If you're planning on coming but haven't yet received directions, you evidently can't FOLLOW directions and need to re-read the first post . . .
The supply of souvenir embroidered Turkish bathrobes (and OFC iPods) is depleting FAST, so get those e-mails in! |

I sent you a PM, but never got a response. If you need the address to gh1's let us know. I have it. It looks pretty easy to get to just east of downtown. I have Mapquest directions from the west side, but I bet you could easily get there by taking I5 up to where 405 turns off to I84. It's not too late, but you better start reading all 24 pages of the NW thread now, so you can finish before you have to ride north. |

and point out the relative ease and efficiency with which this little soiree has been organized.
In a bit over a month and under 60 messages the OFC NE has made it happen (with 30? attendees) as compared to those NW slackers who required just under 3 years and over 400 messages on at least three threads.

King Arthur: Yes!
Soldier: You're using coconuts!
King Arthur: What?
Soldier: You've got two empty halves of coconut and you're bangin' 'em together.
King Arthur: So? We have ridden since the snows of winter covered this land, through the kingdom of Mercia, through...
Soldier: Where'd you get the coconuts?
King Arthur: We found them.
Soldier: Found them? In Mercia? The coconut's tropical!
King Arthur: What do you mean?
Soldier: Well, this is a temperate zone
King Arthur: The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land?
Soldier: Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
King Arthur: Not at all. They could be carried.
Soldier: What? A swallow carrying a coconut?
King Arthur: It could grip it by the husk!
Soldier: It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
King Arthur: Well, it doesn't matter. Will you go and tell your master that Arthur from the Court of Camelot is here?
Soldier: Listen. In order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings forty-three times every second, right?
King Arthur: Please!
Soldier: Am I right? |

Bravely Robin ran away, (No!)
Bravely ran away, away. (I didn't!)
When danger reared its ugly head,
he bravely turned his tail and fled. (No!)
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about (I didn't)
And gallantly, he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet, (I never did!)
He beat a very brave retreat, (Oh, lie!)
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin. (I never!) |

30+ people, each person bringing at least one guitar, maybe two, man that's awesome. |

All kidding aside (and I think you would assume this), if a window of opportunity opens the slightest bit, I'll be the first to jump out of it. The scheming is far from over... |

| Ohh Man your killin me now Cliff! Lets see......Finish the tile in the stand-up shower or go to an acoustic/electric Jam with some talented and known to be funny guitarists I'd like to meet??? Jesus I hate the way I have grown into this priority motivated person.
This sounds like a real fun little gig you got going here Cliff. Dam.... You have fun, as I am sure you will, if I show up I'll bring a few bags of goodies to pay my way and make up for the crash. I'd love to play a little floyd or Zep. or some Beatles with you guy's. To play that Slothead would be worth the drive by itself Cliff. |

Whilst visiting lovely Northern NewJersey, be sure to stop and check out The SideBar (CigarBar attached to the FamishedFrog Restaurant) 18 Washington Street in scenic & trendy Morristown, NJ.
Some band (TwoManSomething-or-other) will be making their first (and possibly last) appearance there at 8:30 ("SpecialGuest" possible). . .
. . . OR . . . stop by my place in Summit FriNite for a Pre-PartyParty and join us in abusing Moody (if you're good, we might let you apply the jumper cables to his testicles out in the garage - great fun!) . . . . |

BTW: In regard to the Def Leppard / Journey show lat night. I must admit that Journey was very impressive. The singer that they had sounded just like Steve Perry and the band played great. I forgot how many good tunes they had back in the 80's. Def Leppard was OK I guess, I just get tired of bands who fill every free moment of every song with screaming guitar solos that all sound alike. Anyway, not a bad night of music at all.
I'll see ya'll later! |

Probably one of the caveats of working with the Witness Protection Agency. A note for future outings would be to check in with the Party Coordinator.
So we have had an OFC Factory, OFC NW, OFC NE and an OFC SW gathering this year, correct?
Let me throw in the OFC Tour de France.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Ah Yes - Jerome is very observent. That's actually a custom made soprano ukulele (2 were built). They were not made by Ovation but somehow were built on Ovation bowls. It's an interesting story and a very interesting uke.
I can't download my photos yet (still on the road) but I've got plenty. And Jerome, some VERY SPECIAL ones for you! The event was absolutely amazing. These just keep getting better and better. I had two wonderful surprises (three including the uke) that showed up at this event. If you look hard at the photo of the guitars you'll spot them. I was SHOCKED and (for once) speechless. My face hurts from smiling for 10 hours. There'll be plenty of stories and photos to come.
Jeff's cutaway U681 is AMAZING. That configuration needs to go into production. What a winner it would be. Bill's Baritone was, well, what can I say... it's just one in a long history of masterpieces. Totally impressed me. Kim had a circus show of odd stuff on hand including (as I predicted, by the way), woodgrain finished roundback balladeer. Lots of other cool stuff. I played someones LX 12 string that was incredible (sorry, I forget who owns it). Cliff's slothead of course. And plenty of other really cool gear.
BUT... the event was not really about the guitars. It was the people who made it a great time. Actually I didn't play all that much. Weren't you glad? Too busy just hanging with everyone. It was great that so many came long distance (Moody from CA, Temp from GB, Jeff, Jason, all the folks from NY and NJ. Total GAS. Huge kudos to PHIL again for donating his time and energy do photos. Phil, you truly are a wonderful asset to the gang. WE APPRECIATE IT! Having Al and "mystery companion" (can I mention it?) show up was just wonderful. Many myths about Al were dispelled and now it ALL MAKES SENSE. She's a Saint. And BILL - it would not have been the same without you. As always you have a way of grounding us before we take ourselves too seriously. Your new toy is amazing and what can I say about the special delivery exept THANKS!
Amy, Kim, Cliff, Janette - You guys are just super. The hospitality was amazing. The catering, everything. WOW! I would just have to say that it was as perfect of a day as I've had in a long time.
I'm still on a high. Take care, travel safe and THANKS AGAIN TO ALL WHO WERE A PART OF THIS!

Brad, I did know about the event. I just did not know if my crazy schedule would allow me to make it. Well, I was told that I HAD to attend, so I made sure nothing was happening for Saturday and make the trip up to Neptune with my wife Suzipep.
We were the first to arrive. As we fumbled around the truck getting out guitars and stuff, Cliff pulled up, followed by Jeff W and a few minutes later CWK. As I turned around saying hellos and geting out gear, I see this brit with a twisted smile in front of me saying "hi al" I was shocked to say the least. I had no clue Paul was going to make it. It was great to see him and Susan.
CWK and Kim had a vast collection of guitars and the rest that were brought by others just made the whole thing right. A special surprise was had by Dave and although I have never seen the man without a smile this day it was from ear to ear all day long. He can tell you about his surprise himself.
Amy was a gracious hostess, great food and a warm friendly atmosphere. Kim was his usual charming self. He even made me be part of his road crew to assemble the PA. I think we were just in awe of guitars and enjoying each other for HOURS before anyone picked up an instrument to seriously play and then it was non stop jamming.
JohnB has a great voice too good for his rendition of "tangled up in blue". I was on the sidelines singing the dylan cadences.
I finally got to meet Rick in person and thank him for the kindness he bestowed on me a few years ago. I mean it I will always feel in debt to you and thanks once again.
Phil's viper (car) was a hit. when he left, I could smell the fumes as he roared off. WOW. Great to see you agin Phil and we will again swap JackF stories.
It was a pleasure to see Mitch and to meet Jason who came all the way from FredericK MD. and I am sure I am missing some folks here. (was moody even there?)
yes even old fumble fingered, frog throat, himself (me) was coaxed up to the mic to do a few tunes. I was able to get Sue up to play some bass and she did a fine job. (If I known she would have played I would have packed her viper bass)
This is the first event my wife Sue was able to attend. So yes the rumors that she does not exist are false (but how do you know I just did not go to rentabim for the day?)
A big thanks to everyone, this was a fun time after a summer of pain and it was GREAT to play some guitar, have some laughs and share some food and drink with some great people.
well, I am tired, my throat is sore from non stop talking and laughing , and i need some rest.
Do the music!!!! |

I would like to add my thanks to Amy and Kim for their hospitality and for all of the hard work that they obviously put in to this event. Also, I would like to especially thank Cliff, without whom I wouldn't even be a member of the OFC. (Yes everyone it's HIS fault). I had a great time hanging out and jamming with all of you. I hope to see you all again soon.
BTW, Dave...that was my 12 string that you were playing. So you're the one who killed my strings!! ;) |

While the guitars were great fun to see and play, the people are the reason I went. Kim, Amy, Cliff, Jeanette, Paul, Susan, Dave, Bill & Loraine, it was great seeing all of you. And then to find that people like Jeff W., and Mitch, and Phil, and Phil, and otheres were there was just icing on the cake.
Thanks one and all. Now I gotta go get some sleep..... |

Location: SoCal | By the way, Jeff's custom ordered Adamas (12 fret, wide neck, mid depth bowl, 47 RI top) was killer! I agree with Dave.. Ovation should make it a standard guitar. All the greatness of the Ute, but a cutaway, and a bass that's been tamed just a bit. I loved playing that guitar.... even with the gay looking "outtie" epaulets.
Not that there's anything wrong with that...... |

Location: N.J. | What an awesome day! Huge thanks to Kim and Amy for having us 'cause we all know how rowdy it can get with the Jersey crew!! :D Saw some old faces and met some new ones and as always it was a pleasure. There just seemed like there was a good vibe in the air the whole day, and the weather held up nicely. I cant wait to see all the pics that were taken as they were some really "interesting" moments. I have to say as far as guitars go, Jeffs new custom really rocked! That was surely one of the guitar highlights of the day. Thanks again to all who made it possible and Temp, it was a real treat that you came all the way here and got to visit scenic NJ. :D
BTW Bill, if you make the next factory tour i'll be sure to bring the car and let ya take it for a spin out the hills. Thats guaranteed a good time!! |

Location: Cicero, NY | Love the video! If I may fill in a few names for some members who have yet to meet the Easy Coast troop, Cliff sounds great on #54 and vocals, as always, with Temp on slide and Tuppy on uke; JeffW, appropriately trying desperately to tune a flamer (apparently someone had the good sense to take his custom made classic away from him in time); Moody, loving the three chord blues in the background, and CWK2 enjoying a beverage and the carnage from the rear. A few others I must apologize as being not sure on the names but it looks like a great time was being had by all.

TONY....we got some serious catching up to do.
Maybe when Fugot gets settled back in we can convince him to hold a jam at the Rocky Mountain Ovation Museum known as his collection and located in beautiful Boulder. |

And when I see Tuppy with his Uke in hands, it reminds me so good moments in France... ;)

Don't know about his neighbors but he has a great family so we may have to make different plans.
:p :p
In all seriousness, Paul graciously extends his home to a Thursday evening get-together during NAMM. Works great as we have factory and OFC out for NAMM (Al, Temp, maybe Kim this time, this year was John, as well as others). I attended for the first time this year and I'm still appreciative of the wonderful hospitality provided by his family.
However, there has to be a time within one day travel of San Diego that we can bring everyone together. So, any ideas?
I nominate Bruce and Fred as the coordinators. :p |

Location: Earth·SolarSystem·LocalInterstellarCloud·Local Bub | I now have a moment to write a bit. Truly an enjoyable day. It was a real surprise to walk into Ciff's home and see Temp and Susan. They had Cliff and Jeanette tied up in the basement... strangely, Cliff and Jeanette didn't seem to mind. We tried to hog-tie Moody when he arrived, but we didn't have a rope long enough.
The ever-gracious Jeanette made a terriffic dinner and Breakfast... not to mention the Hors D'oeuvres. Cliff has to tell you all "the story" about "putting the kids to bed" on Friday night. Funny.
With Dave's arrivial the next day I had to double check that i was on the right coast. It was a ton of fun Just hanging with this crowd...
But...it got even better.... we headed down to Neptune to see Amy and Kim. Al and Sue and Bill and our crowd pulled up in front of Amy's place simultaneously (harmonic convergence?) and things just kept getting better... It was great to meet some new faces, Rick,Tom, Jason, Bruggy, Amy's fellow band members (Really you shoulda heard "Midnight Train To Georgia" during the jam session... Wayfuckin'kewl.) Great to see Mitch and Phil and Phil again...Phil and Mitch can play some guitar for those of you who don't know.
It amazes me how "at home" this crowd feels. The jam was a ton of fun and I was impressed by the talent of so many folks, John B, Mitch can both play and sing. Of course the Pauls and Cliff. SusiePep jumped in on bass when Kim wasn't playing the bass line to 'Summer Lovin'. Dave is a great player, even when he plays a Uke and it was a total gas watching Al play his 2080 during 'Harvest Moon'.
Thanks to everyone. I enjoyed your company one and all.
Really, the best part was that Weaser didn't show. Our collective thanks, Weasy. |

I thought it was funny when after we played moondance you said to me, I wondered where that bass was coming from? sue apparently decided since she knew the song she would play along and grabbed the bass. For some reason people don't think of her as a bass player. All I know is back in the day we had trouble keeping bass players in the band so I decided if I married one I would always have a bassist available. |

A few of the most memorable (and I have to say all the guitars were gorgeous):
#47 Reissue, I think it was tupperware's (awesome sound) It was so new I could still smell the glue!
Balladeer #36 (awesome sound, inparticular the projection of the treble strings)
(CWK's?) Baritone with a swoosh soundhole.
A mandocello (I don't know whose)
An over the top resonator with palm tree sound holes, which was very easy playing.
And an Adamas bass.
Edit: It looks like I can't edit, or upload to a paritular folder, but I can dump them into an empty folder. Will try uploading tonight. |

You don't want to set the other one too high, Cliff and Temp can't reach it from the floor. |

After we'd gone thru all the trouble for laying-out/arranging all of the guitars and "stepped back" to gawk and take pictures, Jeanette went off to the side with her camera and snapped this shot of US looking at the guitars.
Now . . .
If uou didn't know that we were staring at GUITARS, you'd THINK (by the picture) that we were watching a Nekkid Jello Wrestling Match between Pam Anderson and Kate Beckinsale.
She said that while she was taking this, she couldn't stop laughing!
Whenever a conversation at home would turn to OFC-things, she'd refer it as "You and Your GuitarGeek Friends" . . .
On numerous occasions, I had to CORRECT her by telling her:
". . We are NOT "GuitarGeeks"!! . . . We are "GuitarHOMO's"!! . . ."
I think NOW she finally "gets it". . .

Well let's see. Both are curvy, colorful, and attractive. Seems very similar to me, other than the fact that there is less plastic used to make the guitars look good. |

Speaking of ukuleles (huh?), it's a fact that many of the workers in the Kamaka factory are deaf. If I was deaf, my first preference would be to build banjos.

I originally thought that it was a reproduction of an ad from an old music catalog. It's for the "J. Henry Music Co." and is adverising "Banjo Mutes".
Here I'm thinking that it's a t-shaped bit of kit that you would put on a banjo to selectively mute the resonator. Made sense.
It took three or four "slashes" of Tres Generacciones tequila (ThanksAgain, Kim!) before I realized that the ad depicted a f@ckin' SledgeHammer!!!
Laughed my ASS off!!!! . . . . |

And yes, . . Bill is VERY under-rated (especially to his-self), but I heard some VERY tasty leads coming outta' that '84 during "Melissa" . . . |

| Ohh my god that photo Jeanette took is so freaking funny!!!!!!!!! I was sitting here looking at the pile of O's in the earlier photo's looking at them individually and taking them in seperatly panning left across them and panning right. Christ it really is an illness from which there is no escape!
I have to promise myself that I will not miss another. I am playing music and I am real busy but I still feel guilty for not making this one. I really was looking forward to jamming some stuff. And I just have to see one of these piles of Ovations for myself.
By the way when I first looked at the postings submitted after the event was done.... I noticed the guitars hanging from the tree. At first I thought someone had found some old Guitars not of American pedigree and they were hanging from a tree like and old Honda at a Harley rally!

I've played the guitar Bill is holding on several occasions, and I can assure you that it has a voice way better than anyone would expect.
The one on Ebay seems to have a standard Ovation bridge and saddle (The one at NE-OFC has an Applause shape bridge and screw adjustable saddle) Plus it has a standard wide rosette. Someone should go for this at the BIN price, just to keep it in the family.
Oh yeah, almost forgot... great party, glad we could make it to see the usual suspects and a bunch of new faces. |

Paul, we had some problems with luggage being rifled through last time we flew international (at Heathrow, no less) so I invested a few bucks in these TSA Luggage Locks.
TSA personnel can open them, then relock them. They show if they've been opened using the key (and there darned well better be a TSA slip inside!) and make great evidence for claims if something's stolen while in the airline's care.
Luggage handlers will rarely bother messing with luggage that's locked - certainly not when there's so much around that's not! |

Location: Phoenix AZ | There is some real irony about that photo. To the far left is Slothead #54 (a holy grail) and on the fair right is an Academy (a holy pail). Definately the plus and minus 3 sigma of the Ovation/Adamas distribution. Laying in the grass up front is Balladeer #36 with the original long style truss rod cover. Probably more rare than the slotheads.
Also lost in one of the other photos is a proto of the 2004 Collectors. There WAS no 2004 Collector! So this is the only one. Fyi, most people consider the CL30 to be the defacto 2004 Collector.
Another gem is an old ribbon rosette shiny bowl balladeer with a SUPERSHALLOW BOWL. The bowl is finished in WOODGRAIN.
The mando probably slipped by most peoples attendion. It look similar to a Book MM68. But it has INLAID EPAULETS like the modern Elites. Very cool.
The longneck Adamas 12 string and Adamas Bass didn't get a lot of attention due to the other new stuff around, but they are WAY COOL. And the PALMTREE RESONATOR is just something to kill for.
An Amazing collection of instruments. |

But more importantly, the sound was rather incredible for a super shallow bowl. Much deeper and much more mellow than you would ever imagine it would be. Bill commented that for about 14 years, it was all he played. I fully understand that comment having now seen and played it myself. |

For a shaller bowl, that thing has AWESOME acoustic sound!!
The Adamas LongNeck12 (and the Silver/Blue Adamas LongNeck) are Wintering in my MusicRoom.
Did anybody notice that the LongNeck12 is strung "Rickenbacker"??
I may have to re-caulk the windows in the MusicRoom to minimize the "rattle" . . . whatta' Beast!!!
The PalmReso also somehow made it into the Cruiser's cargo hold (that Uncah Beal AM a "sneaky one") . . .

For those who weren't there it was a wonderful time. It had a very homey feeling, and while some of us have never met we know each other from this so it's not like we're strangers. Although some of the people there were really strange, but that's par for the course.
Our deepest thanks to Kim and Amy!!! |

Location: Rego Park, NY, | Thanks for the picture Dave. I don't usually get into to many pictures during an event.
I know I asked this question before but here it goes.
The brightness of lack of seem to fluctuate due to my playing with some exposure settings, flash to subject distance, shutter speed, etc. I know that I played around with some of these settings.
But, how much exposure, light or dark can be due to negative scanning?
I actually had an interesting/awakening experience with the lab that definately has me going more toward the digital side.
It openned my eyes and I am currently waiting for The Photo East 2006 Show to come to the Jacob Javitz Convention Center. I should have a digital SLR by the holidays. |

Except that some programs will add in a certain level of sharpening when using auto adjust and this will more than likely degrade any print you may try to make using those kiosks in the drug stores. The kiosks seem to add in some sharpening automatically and it can ruin a print with too much.
I'm still trying to find a good solution to getting good quality prints from digital photos. |

Did you happen to see that there are a few photos on the disc that I did not post in the gallery?
I said to Paul Templeman that I should just send you THAT one picture to show you what we did that day and to send that photo in for the calendar. |

Location: NJ | Hey!
I got a question.
Remember how (on Saturday morning before driving down to Amy's) I sent you clowns to the supermarket by my house to get beers & such to refill the cooler that got emptied the night before??
WHO was the f@ckwit that bought CoorsLite?!?!?!?!?!
I STILL have a dozen or so bottles of this RockyMountainGoatPiss rattling around in the bottom of my fridge!!!
I even tried palming it off on the neighborhood minors . . . I had to spring for a case of Heinekens t'keep the little bastards from calling the cops on me . . .
ThanksGuys!! |

Blame yourself, Cliff. I would have assumed at the end of the night that you would have left that crap with Amy and brought the good stuff back home with you. OH... WE DRANK ALL THE GOOD STUFF ??? Nevermind.

It definately wasn't me, I wouldn't use that stuff to put myself out if I was on fire. It certainly wasn't Jeff or Witko. So I guess you can figure it out from there.
It'll come in handy next time you get a visit from someone you can't stand. |
