I have a feeling the Taylor was "on hand" at what looks like an impromtu outdoor performance and he just played it "'cause it was there." I;ve seen a few actual concert pics from the tour, and in those he's got his trusty Viper. |

I believe Glen's still an "Ovation guy" at heart, but I don't think he nor Ovation consider him an exclusive endorsee these days. I find it odd though that with the reissue of his namesake guitars, that he chooses his old Viper or a deep bowl Elite LX as his stage guitars. |

Location: Central Florida | I'm pretty sure Glen owns at least one Taylor. I seem to recall his rhythm guitarist, Ken Skaggs, saying that Glen was so impressed with his (Ken's) Taylor, that he bought one just like it. A few years ago, GC was on Larry King Live and did a whole solo acoustic set with a grand concert bodied Taylor. However, if you happen to catch the TV Land special on GC a couple of weeks ago, in the recent interview footage you could see his black 80's Custom Legend and (I belive) a Legend 12-string LX displayed rather prominently in the background.
Like I said, I don't think Ovation's longest standing endorsee has abandoned them. I just don't think Glen's as persnickity about what guitar he plays when he's not performing one of his own concerts as he might've been, say, 20-30 years ago. In recent years I've seen him play a variety of different brands; Martins, Taylors, Takamines, Guilds, and at the funeral of Ray Charles he played one of those all composite acoustics (can't think of the brand at the moment).
All of that to say, I believe that Glen just plays whatever's handy or provided for him, whenever he's performing outside of his own concert stage. |

Glen will always be associated with Ovation in one way or another and I've always been a fan of his, but if he wants to go play Taylors, Martins, Fenders or whatever so be it. It's certainly not worth getting my panties in a bunch. Dave |

| I guess a musician like Campbell has played them all at one time or the other, and it's anybodies guess how many he actually owns...A guitarist such as he, is used to playing guitars with custom set-ups anyway. As I understand it, a pro luthier, Rich Beck, in Arizona does his fretwork. |

He may have glued in a couple of frets for Glen back in the day, but he's no fan of Ovations. The last time I was in his place (several years ago), I was greated with "Get that m*ther f*cking plastic piece of shit out of my sight before I shove it up your f*cking ass sideways." Those who know Richard will know exactly what I mean. Dave |

If Beck were to really stick an Ovation guitar up Tupperwares rear cavity then would it not make sense that you would want a
SPHINCTER PRO LUTHIER there to remove it ???
Just a thought.......GWB |

| It's tues am, I just got back to this topic, I apologize I mentioned mr beck, I didn't know he was hostile to ovation guitars as such...most every brand of instrument has it's lesser models and better models anyway...no reason to trash 'em all... |

If you could have any and as many guitars as you wanted, wouldn't you want a variety? I sure would. Here's a Taylor - Gee thanks! Have a Martin - Much obliged! I'd take 'em all. |

Well, he may hate Ovations, but he sure doesn't mind having GC endorse his work with a quote on his (Beck's) web site that says, "Beck has exclusively worked on my my Ovations, Fenders and Martins for fourteen years..."
If he really hates Ovations as much as Dave's experience would indicate, then he's obviously the kind of guy that would refret an Esteban if he thought he'd get a celebrity endorsement out of it. |

If he doesn't like the color red, and you walk in with a red strat, he's likely to say "that's one ugly f*cking guitar". Take it for what it's worth. Dave |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | It is OK to have an opinion. But when someone is in business, it isn't very wise to exercise it so blantantly as to offend your customers. Personally, if I walked into a shop and the guy badmouthed my guitar like that, I'd turn around and walk out. Nobody is so good that they can afford to insult people. The same goes with the lack of professionalism displayed when he uses profanity like that. There's a guy who works in a local guitar shop here who had a problem with his mouth like that. Everyone in town referred to him as "potty-mouth". They get very little business now, and I doubt if they'll stay in business as long as he works there.. |

I always gave him a lot of credit for that . . .

As far as the guitar tech in question; folks who behave like that no matter what they do to earn money will get the work and rewards they deserve. Let him go his way and pick only the fights he can win. Guys like that keep the rest of us in business. Can't speak for anyone else, but my whole professional life has been about serving and pleasing as many customers as possible in as professional manner as possible. You can't please 'em all, but you can please most of 'em or at the very least, try. After all, they are paying you for a good or service. No problem being kind to everybody; you never have to feel bad (about being mean to someone) if you treated them well.
Oh, and by the way, what does it matter what kind of guitar bears the strings that Glen Campbell plays? It's great that he is still playing no matter what guitar he plays. Go Glen. Keep playin'. I can't wait to hear and see him in Vegas later on this year. And it absolutely won't matter what kind of guitar he uses. |

If I won the lottery, there'd be a whole lot more than Ovations in my collection... Santa Cruz, Olson, Collings, etc. I suspect tho' that there probably wouldn't be any Taylors. Maybe one or two Martins..... |
