Do you remember any songs that were banned from radio airplay for being politicly or morally incorrect.I remember one back in the late 60s called
EVE OF DESTRUCTION by Barry Mcguire. Im not sure why they pulled it but I thought it was because of references to Red China and talking about our political problems here . Does anyone know?? Can you think of any other songs banned from airplay??????? GWB

I guess I was intereseted in what was the song name & what was the reason it was banned from airplay ? Why was the Unknown Soldier banned? All of the songs are now back on the radio with the words censored out. GWB

"Society's Child" by Janis Ian... "banned" becuase it's about interracial relationships. I'm not sure if songs were actually banned or just not played in some markets.

On a different note...I remember that this one caused an uproar.

They're coming to take me away, HA HA
They're coming to take me away, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see
Those nice, young men
In their clean, white coats
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

Hey there Little Red Riding Hood
You sure are lookin' good
You're everything a Big Bad Wolf would want.

Eve of Destruction was pulled in a lot of markets because some felt it could promote suicidal feelings among teens. It was pretty depressing, in a catchy kind of way.

I can't remember any song or artist being banned nationally (unless pulled by thier label) because there were always stations willing to risk playing it. Some that were fairly widespread were "Satisfaction", "Pictures of Lily", "Woman is the Nigger of the World", "George Jackson".

"Kill yo mutha" was part of one of the Rap lyrics that helped to institute the current rating system.

Checks and balances can be a good thing. When the Yoots are being targeted for the excessive spare cash they have it can be a free for all.

I think all kids should have the right to grow up like Opie did.

At least in the US, there isn't a such thing as a "banned" song. Who is out there to ban it? There is no such authority.

Individual radio stations can choose to play or not play any song they like. But that doesn't mean, for example, that my preferred classic rock station has 'banned' Frank Sinatra. They just don't play him.

Maybe things aren't banned here in the U.S.A., but they are definatly controled. The FCC and their fines carry a big hammer.

I seem to remember a bit of an uproar when NWA or some other rap group came out with a "Kill The Cops" song a few years back. I don't think it was ever actually banned tho'.

Anybody recall that one?

Song? How about an entire bands output?

If I recall correctly The Payola$ (out of Vancouver, BC) couldn't get airplay in the U.S because of their name. Until, after 5 or 6 albums they became 'Rock and Hyde.'

If I'm right, y'all never got to hear one of the great bands of the early 80's and tunes like;
Eyes Of A Stranger
Romance
China Boys
though you may have heard some of their softer side, like
Tears Are Not Enough.

Songs I remember being "not played" (for content) when I was a teenager:

"Ballad Of John and Yoko" - Beatles (for "Christ" being used as an expletive, supposedly)
"Timothy" - The Buoys (cannibalism)
"Society's Child" - Janis Ian (interracial)

sweet cream ladies

T TOP - TEN... - The Box Tops Lyrics - Sweet Cream Ladies Forward March Lyrics

SWEET CREAM LADIES, FORWARD MARCH
The Box Tops

Sweet cream ladies forward march
The world owes you a living
Sweet cream ladies do your part
Think what you are giving

To the lost and lonely people of the night
Out of need they seek direction from the light
They will love you in the darkness
Take advantage of your starkness
And refuse to recognize you in the light

Sweet cream ladies forward march
Think what your providing
Sweet cream ladies show your starch
What's the use in hiding

Tell the socialites to look the other way
It's instinctive stimulation you convey
It's a necessary function
Meant for those without compunction
Who get tired of vanilla everyday

Sweet cream ladies forward march
Puritans ignore them
Sweet cream ladies do their part
Sweet cream men adore them

Let them satisfy the ego of the male
Let them fabricate success for those who fail
And should penalties pursue them
When there's really credit to them
They might keep a simple fellow out of jail

Sweet cream ladies forward march
Sweet cream ladies forward march
Sweet cream ladies forward march...

Lola was banned by the BBC, a non-commercial station on the grounds that it contained the brand-name Coca Cola. Davies changed it Cherry Cola to get around the ban

Im not so sure that the word " banned " is wrong. Banned does not mean its a law it just means it is somebodys or some orginazations law or interpetation of it.In the 1950-s some of our State Governments had banned black people from using the same bathrooms as white people.. Remember all of the racial tension back then because certain State Governments wouldn't allow black people to enter certain so called white schools . There were protests everywhere by people like Martin Luther King because of all of the " bans " put on black people .Back then the Government had an awful lot of control on what a person could do & what the government thought was right & wrong so I think they did have alot of Banning of different things back then. The record companies would just have the lyrics overdubbed or the radio stations would bleep out( censor )the lyrics to get around the issue . We all know now that in todays world it is much more different from then so if you do go against the grain,, such as play the original version of the MC5-s Kick Out The Jams MFers ,, you will get a fine from the FCC,, just ask Howard Stern . On the thread "" Louie-Louie "" MWoody put a website on it about how much our government was involved in the 60s about that one song.Check it out it is a cool article from The Smokin Gun.The FBI spent time investigating it.I hope that this will get everybody a shot in the arm to address the censorship issue of " BANNING " Thanks for letting me vent on this and I hope this thread has some more life in it .I need to go fill my glass of Whiskey & Water back up.

WERE THERE SONGS THAT WERE EVER BANNED FROM OUR AIRWAVES ??? I THINK SO .
WHAT WERE THEY & WHY WERE THEY BANNED FROM THE AIRWAVES??

thought of banned songs when I saw a movie about the life of Jane Birkin.

check out the video
http://youtube.com/watch?v=qO0J7O960ls&mode=related&search=

the tune is called "Je t'aime... moi non plus" which translates into something like "I love you...me neither" LOL

anyway I thought you may enjoy this gem.

BTW weaser "cop Killer" is the song you are thinking of and it was recorded by ice T and body count

banned because of the heavy breathing

here are the lyrics

Je t'aime moi non plus

[G]Je t'aime [C]je t'aime [F]
Oh [G7]oui je t'aime! [Dm7]
- [Em7]Moi non plus.
- [GOh mon [C]amour...[F]
- [G]Comme [F]la vague [Em7]irrésolue [Dm]
Je vais je [C]vais et je viens [F] [G4]
[Am]Entre tes reins [G7]
Je [C]vais et je [Am]viens
[F7M]Entre tes [Dm7]reins
[Em7]Et je
[F7M]Me re-
[G7]Tiens
- Je t'aime je t'aime
- Oh oui je t'aime!
- Moi non plus.
- Oh mon amour...
Tu es la vague, moi l'île nue
Tu vas tu vas et tu viens
Entre mes reins
Tu vas et tu viens
Entre mes reins
Et je te rejoins
Je t'aime je t'aime
Oh oui je t'aime!
- Moi non plus.
- Oh mon amour...
- Comme la vague irrésolue
Je vais je vais et je viens
Entre tes reins
Je vais et je viens
Entre tes reins
Et je me retiens
Tu vas et tu viens
Entre mes reins
Et je te rejoins
- Je t'aime je t'aime
- Oh oui je t'aime!
- Moi non plus.
- Oh mon amour...
L'amour physique est sans issue
Je vais je vais et je viens
Entre tes reins
Je vais et je viens
Entre tes reins
Je me retiens
- Non! maintenant
Viens!

a translation I found

love you I love you Oh yes I love you

Nor do I

Oh my love

Like the wave Irresolute

I go I go and I come Inside you my love I go and I come Inside you my love And then I hold on

I love you I love you Oh Yes I love you

Nor do I

You are the wave And I the naked island You go you go and you come you go and you come inside me my love and then we are one

I love you I love you Oh yes I love you Nor do I

Oh my love

Like the wave irresolute

I go i go and I come Inside you my love I go and I come Inside you my love And then I hold on

I love I love you my love Inside me my love I love you my love Deep inside me my love And then we are one

I love you I love you Oh yes I love

Nor do I

Oh my love

Physical love is a dead end

I go I go and I come Inside you my love I go and I come And I hold on

The first song I remember being "banned" was Olivia Newton John's song "Physical". She had just gotten out of the good-girl image with the movie Grease. The song was supossedly about physical activity/athletics (yeah, right). I was living in Provo, UT at the time.
