Location: Chicago area | As some of you have seen, I recently decided that I wanted an Ovation for use at in praise band at church. I have wanted an O for some time, but was unwilling to "comprimise" and get a more affordable Celebrity or Applause version. I wanted one made in US and the new LX treatment had me convinced that now was the time.
Long story short, I had some great recommendations from everyone on this board, but Gregory Smith (Sounds of Praise Music) reached out to me and offered to help me in my quest. He helped me to determine what I needed, based on my requirements, and offered to make the purchase more affordable as part of his mission to help Christian musicians aqcuire quality gear at an affordable price. The wonderful thing is that this leaves more money for me to offer to mission work, to tithe, and to help those less fortunate than me.
Greg was patient with me, and not at all pushing me in any direction as I settled on my selection. He took time with me on the phone to discuss guitars, music, love of God, and his experience in the Christian music industry.
In the end, I decided on a 6778LX-NEB. It arrived yesterday and is a wonderful instrument. I am impressed at how nice it sounds plugged in (through my Ultrasound AG-50DS3 amp). My Tak sounds good, but alot of piezo quack. My new O is lush and very full sounding which is EXACTLY what I was hoping for.
He included with my purchase some very key items, which would have added additional expense with any other vendor. This included additional sets of strings, guitar stand, strap, shipping, etc. I cannot disclose the deal that he made for me, but let me just recommend that you CALL GREG before making your next Ovation purchase!!!!
I will be posting a few pics today on my OFC gallery in case you want to see my new baby :D
I currently play with a southern gospel band that performs at our church but also travels around the area to nursing homes, other churches, and festivals. We are starting a new worship service this fall (mostly praise music) and I am thrilled and blessed to have the opportunity to share my love of music and love of God with others.
Thanks again to Greg and the very warm welcome from all of you on the OFC....I think I will have a happy home here!
Peace and Grace.....

Location: GA USA | Congrats, boys. You had me until "southern gospel", but I'm sure you're great at it. What do people in Chicago think of the Chuckwagon Gang, anyway?

Greg.....why the red face? Well earned praise is nothing to be embarrassed about!
Ken...guitar sounds great and I am sure you will make it sound like the angels from heaven are singing out!

I love my 6778NEB. It's sort of my project guitar...I added gold hardware, XLR, K&K pickups, and sound ports in the bass shoulder. Just the other day, I put Airlocks in the treble soundholes. I'm in love w/the finish!
How do you get northerners to listen to Southern Gospel? Whenever Maryanne & I think about retiring to a warmer climate, we're reminded about the music we'd have to worship to if we moved south of the Mason-Dixon line...stops THAT thought process dead in it's tracks!

Location: Budd Lake, NJ | That's easy--take them to a local venue when the Gaither Homecoming folks are there; have them listen to the Gaither Vocal Band, all those wonderful people who helped pioneer Gospel music, and voila! We listen to it, too! I was kinda on the fence about the whole thing, but I really enjoy it now. How those people can sing!

(Sorry...just teasing.) John <>{ Jewel's Mom is right. Listen to some of the newer Southern Gospel.
In Our church we play most all styles of music from "Amazing Grace" to "Ancient of Days".
Some songs fast some slow.

Location: Chicago area | hmmm, looks like I hijacked my own thread....my intent was to praise Greg, not my praise band or gospel as it may be ;-)
but since I did, I had better follow up on those comments....
had you told me 25 years ago that I would be playing in a praise band and southern gospel group on the side...I would of claimed you CrAzY! I was into the "late bloomer" 60's classic rock, a deadhead with over 40 Grateful Dead concerts under my belt and into the jam bands and free wheeling blues. Well, tastes and priorities in life change and I have moved from blues and rock into praise and yes...even souther gospel. The southern gospel mixed quartet was something I was asked to do, and because I was looking to gain more performance experience I jumped in head first. The group leader explained it as country-like gospel music. It was all new to me, but guess what.....I like it....and the more I play it and see it on tv....I like it even more. Go figure, from tie-dies to this....doesn't God have a great sense of humor.
Everyday I am blessed to have opportunity to worship him...through my gift of music.
Okay...back on topic......Greg is a great guy! ;-)
