Location: Upper Left USA | Today, its chrome.
This solidbody was a stained piece of Asian Mahogany with dents and such. I just put some Koa veneer over the faces.
I am trying to work up the courage to try my hand at an inlaid binding. We'll see. |

By the way, those O(lympia) papoose are great little guitars. What electronics are you putting in? The original pups and stuff are pretty good. |

Would you use wood or plastic? (a contrasting wood binding would be da bomb! ;) )
Have you got a dremel tool?
If you do you may want to invest in a Binding Router Guide (a little expensive for a one time deal but if you do a few more.....)
Good Luck.....keep the pics coming on the progress. |

Early on I gutted the original stuff and kept the Duncan Design HB103. This time I intend to wire it Volume only.
Possibly add a Ghost System piezos later. |

Binding guide and bit, cream binding, adhesive, etc. Grabbed some Abalone from the South Pacific as well. |

I am still a hack. There were more than a few little mistakes on this one but nothing ventured nothing gained. Finish is poof canned.
Binding then final buff. |

I don't expect any changes except that I put on a real Tacoma Papoose neck instead of the Olympia ( think USA Ovation vs. Applause).
When I lined the necks up I saw where the frets were not placed the same. I had intonation issued with the first neck. |

Man, I must've lucked out with mine vis-a-vis intonation. |

Location: Upper Left USA | I got the Tacoma neck on ebay.
When I lined the two necks up the Olympia neck had the 4th fret placed a fret ahead of the other. Then it kept that rythym to the end.
Both are listed as the same scale. The only problem I had was tuning with harmonics and at 5/5/5/4/5 frets differences. Short scale is difficult to work as well.
The electronics are gutted and I've gone with a single volume out.
We'll see... |
