| I am sorry to say that my old dear friend fell today and took it in the neck. I have an Ovation 1111-4 SN 000633 that fell from it's stand this morning face down and broke it's neck right at the base of the head. I've had this guitar for almost 20 years and it is absolute pristine shape. The frets were worked by the origional ower who left it to me when he passed. I added Sperzel keys. Now, now it's got a broken neck. My question is, can it be fixed? If so, is it worth it? And if so, what direction do I take.
I also have the origional hard case, that too is perfect. I was told a while ago that the guitar (because of it's low SN) and case is worth about $1000.00. Not sure how accurate that is.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Wow, sorry to hear about the accident. Yes it can be fixed. Contact the factory service department. But it'll probably cost you about the same is it would to replace it. Old Balladeers show up frequently for sale so maybe that is your best bet. Dave |

| Dave, Thanks for the input. Actually, I took it to a nearby Guitar repair shop and was told they could fix it for about $100 and it will be good as new??? I figured it's worth the $100 to find out.

I expect you now have your guitar back from the shop.
I had the same thing happen around 30 years ago to my Standard Balladeer.
There was a article in Guitar player covering this topic. I followed their instructions and was able to repair the instrument myself.
I have learned since that Ovations have a weak spot at the junction of the headstock and the neck.
As long as it does not break totally off, it is possible to repair it yourself.
After 30 years it is playing like new and sounding magnificant.

Location: ranson,wva | i got a balladeer thats getting ready to go to john at the mothership for a new slothead neck. i bought the old thing for $50 with a good case but the head stock is completly dismembered at the neck. according to john its gonna cost around $500 with the slothead, i reckon with the regular headstock it would be a bit less..jason |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | My very 1st "O"- Ol'Faithful- had a broken peghead. Circa late '60's neck, with early '80's bowl & top. Recut the scarf joint & reglued the head. Probably added another few degrees to the break-angle at the nut (not a bad idea, anyway). Plays just as well as the 1127 John & Kim rebuilt for me. No guts, no glory......or......no brain, no pain. |

Location: Bolton, UK | A friend of mine had the head snapped in just the same spot (above the nut)on his Yamaha. A local guitar repair guy just glued it back together and its now fine. Its definately worth $100 for the repair. |
