Location: New Hampshire, USA | Totally agree about Janis. I just don't hear the appeal. Always sounded to me like a cat having its tail stepped on.
But I'd have to say my most disliked is Diana Ross, but due to the kind of person she is rather than her singing. When I was in college, one of my professors told us a story about the previous summer when he worked spotlights at the Portland Maine Civic Center.
He was up in the rigging at his spotlight before a sound check and the Divine Ms. Ross had decreed that NO ONE was to be on the stage when she stepped on it for her sound check.
Well she arrived and there was a worker still on the edge of the stage on his hands and knees cleaning that part of it. Evidently he hadn't gotten the word. She saw him, strode right up to him and kicked him in the ribs as hard as she could. I don't care how big of a star anyone is, there's no excuse for treating someone like that.
I know it's a second hand story but I did hear it from the guy who saw it happen.
Ever since I heard that story, I turn the station whenever Diana Ross comes on. |

I really don't have time for this. (Literally!) I'd be up all night. How do these schlockmeisters even get signed anyway? Any single cut from OFC3 pretty much outshines (not to mention outclasses) the entire bodies of work from these "artists". |

Now, i don't agree with everyone saying Kid Rock, granted his old stuff should never have been made, his new album i have to admit is pretty good, the new single All Summer Long is not by any means the worlds greatest song, but its a whole lot better then anything off one of his previous records.. |

IMO he has done a lot to bring back to the younger kids the sounds of guitars, drums, and a bass. You know, more like the stuff we used to listen to.
Okay, so here I am, a 54 year old bald guy trying to defend someone who sings about bitches, whores, whiskey & cocaine. Strange.
On the other side he is a local, (very local) guy done good who has not forgotten or forsaken his Michigan / Detroit / Mt Clemens roots.
Now it's somebodys turn to drone on & on about how friggin' great Axel Rose is.
Go ahead. I got it comin'. |

Y'see, he started-out with that rap crap cuz it is simple, and any drunk kid can do it if he managed to do Nursery Rhymes in school. But might have actually met some Real Musicians along the way.
Someone sold him a guitar, and he saw the error of his ways.
Unfortunately, Rap-crap and scuz-bucket image sells nowadays, so he will continue to play what the corpo-rats tell him will make him money,
But who knows? Maybe when he is at home he plays blues on his '59 Strat (or whatever else he decided to buy since he has more money than the Clintons) |

| I HATE Kurt Cobain and all the grundge in general.
When I'm saying "hate" I mean "real" hate, all the grundges I met in my life where morons, stupid and proud of their ignorance and stupidity. When they took over, after 1994, they started a politics of "ethnic cleansing" against those who played seriously guitar, and for at least 6 years I wasn't able to find anybody to play with because I was "uncool" to play properly and study music.
I was in my late teens and it was really bad, I and other with my ideas (at that time I knew nobody, but later recalling those years I realized that I wasn't the only one with that problem) were treated like political dissidents in totalitarian regimes.
Fortunately now grundge is dead but the damage they had done to the world of music lives again. |

I disliked disco, and really dislike rap. (Though if you're a fan of Flo Rida's Low you should check out this YouTube acoustic cover .
There are a lot of musicians that I have lost respect for because of their excessive political preaching and inane political commentary. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | This thread is actually pretty depressing to me. Why can't we talk about what performers we DO like? Why approach it from the negative?
There's no artist that I "hate", but plenty that I would never listen to in a million years. Lots of those were already mentioned in this thread by others. I wouldn't want to mention them because others might actually like them, and what's to be gained by pissing off all Rolling Stones fans (for example) by proclaiming "I hate the f'ing Rolling Stones" ...
Fact is that the list if artists that I DISlike is a hell of a lot longer than those that I DO like. I've got a narrow bandwidth, that's my issue not theirs. If you like Kid Rock and I like Celine Dion, big freaking deal.
Sorry to sound so uppity. Maybe I'm just sickened by all the negativity that comes with an election year. I just don't don't get it when people "hate" McCain or Obama. How about "I support so and so because I can more closely relate to his views on such and such" ???
Go back to my earlier post in this thread.

Musical talent from that point on came second BIG style.
Then of course, we got the jokers who jumped on the band wagon (Simon Cowell, et. al.) who thought it would be a good idea to have a talent show to find `singers' to form new boy/girl bands.
The format has been milked to death, but that won't stop them.
The four lads from Liverpool who played their own instruments and wrote their own songs wouldn't stand a chance today. |

Location: south east Michigan | The conotation of the word "hate" has evolved on the past few years. Remember when "happy & gay" was often used? "Hate" has taken on a stronger, darker meaning then it used to. Normally I would steer around it but here perhaps I let my guard down. I gotta remember that this is the internet and just because I intend say in a more innocent tone, it only matters on how it is read.
I think Dave is saying that it's better to angle to the positive than waste time & energy on the negative. I agree.
Maybe we're just a "bunch of old, out of touch, white guys" looking for some type of commonality.
Maybe that commonality could also be found on the postitive side. There are a ton of tunes & artists out there that I have been deeply touched by. I could site verses and explain in great detail the part they have played in my life. But that would require introspection & explaination of personal details. It's much easier & shorter to go the other way and take it out on the poor, misundersood Axel Rose. |

| Wow hard to pick one......I have the unpleasant honor of disliking; Techno Bop Crap from any era, Disco, Rap, anything with the word "Death" "Metal" or "Core" in it, and Punk.
And I am growing up and learning to appreciate Country music more and more, still not my style and I may never become a convert but I will admit lots of great musical content and great musicians! Unlike the crap listed above.
If I had to pick one....... I guess it would be.......Michael Jackson....no....he really is an ass but he does have some musical ability..........OK......I guess ...........Yoko Ono She has never produced one measure of music worth listening to that I know of. To be honest I will never really know I can't make it through enough of it to care.
I live a small musical life but I am happy. |

| Well for most humans, we do have dislikes. I don't "hate" Yoko Ono, I do Dislike her as an Artist. This thread is about artistic dislikes. not HATE. Actually I might Hate Yoko but we have not met so it's just dislike........
Who cares what I, or any of us, think anyway right. This is just supposed to be fun and for some of us a thread to try and post funny or witty response. It is a discussion that is at least based on a music theme.
Personally I can't take sunshine and roses every day. For me a little bad weather and dog shit makes the good days that much better and it keeps you in the real world and aware of things having to watch for the Shit. |

The guy in the Holiday Inn Lounge taking himself seriously. Swaying to the beat of the beat-box synth, winking and pointing knowingly at the cute chicks as he sings Mack The Knife.
