Why would you buy/order/make one without an OP-Pro, and leave off the lovely "LX" ont he truss rod cover? I just don't get it ... or course there's a lot of stuff I just don't get. |

he's pretty specific with serial numbers and such. |

Location: Hiram, Georgia | it seems to have the inlaid epaulets, I wonder if they just swapped the can and all on the preamp, I don't think the OP-30 fits in the OP-PRO can. |

Location: closely held secret | I think I'm with Paul on this one. Especially with no LX TRC.
I'd ask for a picture of the label.
EDIT: Actually, after looking closer, I'm just confused. It's not a Celeb, they don't have TRC's. OP30? I can believe a GC preamp swap... except my experience tells me the OP30 doesn't work in the Pro can. And who swaps TRC's at GC? |

Location: Parrish, FL | I'm a little foggy on this, but it seems to me that when the LX models first came out, they had the OP-30 pre-amp on them.
I'm going back almost two years and I was brand new to O's at that time so I' probably wrong on this. I was looking at the lower end elites and lusting after the LX's at the time.
MWoody had just gotten his LX a month or two earlier and could put this notion to rest. |

Location: SoCal | It is my understanding that the LX guitars (introduced in 2004), to include the "standard" LX, came with the OP-Pro but the version without the XLR. |

Location: closely held secret | Of all I've looked at (quite a few!) only the Elite and Legend Customs came stock with XLR. It's possible they put them in a few others just for giggles.
I've never seen one, right from the beginning, that didn't have an OPPro or the LX TRC.
...except for mine, which has a self-installed XLR and an official MWoody TRC. |

Location: NW NJ | Here's what I got from the seller:
"Hi Robbie... The guitar is a 1778 LX... This guitar was gotten straight from the factory... (I live near the factory in CT)... My sister bought it and decided that learning to play was too hard so she asked me to sell it on Ebay... I have 2 other Elite guitars, and i have noticed that there are minor differences with this one.. It has chrome machines, no LX on the truss rod cover, and an OP-30 preamp... But the neck has a gloss finish (not satin) and Elite inlays... It looks and plays like my high end Elite and it IS beautiful (thanks for saying so)... The only reason i didn't buy it from her is that it has a med depth bowl and i strongly prefer shallow depth... Thanks for your question.. let me know if you have more... Ian"
Didn't know you you could get axes straight from the factory as a mere mortal. I guess it might be a real early LX made before the whole "LX package" was completely defined ... and other ideas? |

Location: CT | It's definitely not a Celeb with the 5 piece neck and TRC, Maybe a very early LX. It does look like the 1868 and the 1778, those had the OP40, no TRC, and I don't think the epaulets were inlays.
Elite 1868
2 of my O's came straight from the factory, but my brother works there(not Ovation, but KAMAN - helicopter construction in Bloomfield, but still gets the employee discount :D ). |

"Hi Robbie.. Because of the small differences in this guitar, i brought it to the factory today. First of all, they replaced the truss rod cover with one that says LX... I will put an updated picture on the listing showing that... They said that this guitar must have been produced as a custom model.. It has a body, neck, and fretboard of a 1778 LX, yet it has chrome tuner pegs and an OP-30... They also gave it a little adjustment and lowered the action.. It's nice... So, the deal is that this guitar is a 1778LX with minor custom changes... Like i said, my sister bought this guitar and found that her wrist injury made it too hard to learn, so she asked me to sell this for her because i'm a musican and i know guitars, as well as the fact that she does not have an ebay account. So now that i've had the factory check out the guitar, i feel comfortable describing the guitar details... This guitar is really a great guitar and i would keep it if it had a shallow body... I have a return policy to insure that you are getting what is described, if you decide to bid... Okay, that's all the info i have and please e-mail if you have any more questions..
Thanks.. Ian"
The story unfolds a bit. Still wish I knew why you'd custom order a 1778 LX with an OP30, rosewood fretboard and bridge, and chrome tuners ... |

Location: NW NJ | And the Elite inlays on a gloss neck instead of the dot inlays on a satin neck from a 6778LX. I was looking at it as a dumbed down 1778LX, but maybe the better way to look at it is from your perspective Waskel - a dumbed up 6778LX (minus the pre-amp issue altogether, of course). Or maybe ... well, I told you from the beginning there are a lot of things I just don't understand. |
