Location: Keller, TX | Quick report. Cootie arrived today.
Good: Sound is AMAZING. Best sounding Ovation I have ever heard. Exactly what I wanted. Exactly what I expected.
Bad: I ordered a 12 fret cutaway UTE. I got a 12 fret 2080 with a UTE crossweave top. Still with the 2080 sound hole. No eapulets. No glitter/sparkles. Studio preamp low battery light stays on all the time, even if the preamp is taken out of the can. Have to take the battery out. Seems to work fine. Battery light stays on, even when phantom powered thru the amp.
Not sure where the breakdown occured. Factory was closed after the delivery was made by UPS on Friday so we have to wait until Monday to see what happened. We have all the emails to the factory showing what was ordered.
Pictures later tonight or tomorrow at the latest. Not sure what to do. |

Sounds like a one of a kind beauty. I look forward to seeing the pics. |

You have a 12 fret slothead cat eye sound hole cutaway midbowl adamas. and I thought jeffs was righteous. wow, that actually is cool. the factory will right the electronics, sucks that it is like that right from the factory. but customer service is excellent at Adamas/ovation/hamer. 12 fret cateye cutaway...wow |

I'd play with it this weekend, then talk to O on Monday, after you've had a chance to bond (or not).
Oh, and PICTURES WILL BE REQUIRED!!! :D |

Quick photo. Will take some better ones tomorrow in the light. Yes, Fred, those are Savarez strings!
This is what I ordered:

Reflecting between what you got and the nasty nikey swoosh model 2080...(yuck, by the way)...that is a really, really sharp design. The look, the slothead, the cutaway contour body, and the cats-eye opposite the cutaway really is striking.
I echo the other's, if you decide you don't want it. I'll take it off your hands ;) |

I agree; even if it's not what you ordered...dang! That baby has to sing. Did it come with all your warranty info and stuff? Sounds like someone at Ovation put in way too many hours that week...
Great-looking guitar. I've not been sold on the "cateye" look yet, but I'd take one like that in a heartbeat! |

Not wanting to change the subject, and not wanting to stir up old subjects that don't belong in the public...
GregoryS was my dealer. It was not his fault. Emails document that the factory got the correct order, but got changed somewhere between the ordering and production. Greg was great. I was working with him back in late May/early June trying to get the contour bowl Adamas done, but couldn't. However, when he opened up the case and found out that the guitar was a 2080 instead of a UTE, he immediately jumped in his car and drove !250 miles! to bring the guitar to me to see. He left the guitar with me and has given it to me to keep until we can get a replacement or I decide to keep this one. Truly he has done everything to make this right. Highest props to Greg!
It was raining Horses and Rhinos this AM so I'll try to get some decent photos this afternoon. |

Add to that the amazing sound that he says is coming out of it...yikes!...you have guys interested in taking this one off your hands so there's no exposure if you want to go the original route or you can keep this one....good luck with that, man. |

I don't know how to record anything on my computer. I may try to strum a few chords tonight but don't know if the tiny computer microphone I have would give the depth/quality that is coming out of the guitar. |

I do like that neck though, and as deep as the 2080 is stock, I can't image it with a 12 fret....WOW. That guitar has crossed the combination between new tech/old tech better than any instrument I have seen. Might have deleted the fret markers, but other than that, it is a spectacular guitar.
I do like the 2080 texture as it doesn't show fingerprints and such, easy maintenence. The "Cats eye" thing is growing on me after a few months too although I still don't like the Nike swoosh. Thinking about using a sharpie to color it black.
On the electronics problem. John B was fantastic in helping me on my VIP problem. We ultimately ended up swapping out the entire package from plugs to VIP. It took maybe 10 minutes to do it and he shipped it all to me USPS express (2 days).
Customer Service at Ovation is FANTASTIC. I really need to send in my 1537 for refurb, but am afraid of shipping it after the debacle with my W597. |

I'd ask the dealer to make good on a VIP (is that what you ordered?) and call it a deal. If they can't do that, I'd call it a deal anyway. I'm sure after seeing yours, a few members have already placed orders for similar guitars. Dave |

I was just saying, we could have the same strings any way you want it. I imagine your first set is starting to get a litte "weird to tune" by now. I typicaly get about 20 hours of play out of a set of strings. Having more than one guitar to play is the only reason I don't change strings weekly. Although I still change strings twice as often on the U681T as the next closest competitor (Noah's FD-14). You've had it 12 days already. Those strings should be frayed by now...
So... I see you're bringing it with you... :D :p :D :p |
