Location: Los Angeles | I am a big boy and have that Alfred Hitchcock like profile...my ovation is deep bowl and I love the sound unplugged but...
The neck seems to rotate while I play leaving the fretboard 45% from vertical instead of closer to 15% like most guitars. I can see the fretboard which is kinda nice, but my fretting hand gets tired wrapping around for those barre chords.
Is my strap to tight? any tricks for deep bowl players standing up? (I know exercise and vegetables is the long term solution but I am looking for a quick fix here)

'05 collectors would be a great choice and they pop up periodically for excellent prices. |

Location: NJ | don't press you right arm down on the bass end of the guitar. use it like a hinge and you will not push out the guitar body. |

Location: Warren,Pa. | How old is your guitar? Mine is a '79, and the strap button is on the treble side of the neck heel. They say this position of the strap button aids with the problem. It does for me. If your's is on the bass side, move it. John <>{ |

Location: Reading, Pa. | I have a 1511 mod. and it came with the strap button on the treble side of the body. I moved it,like all my other guitars, to the back of the heel of the neck. Now it hangs nice. No roll and it took pressure off my neck. Wherever you decide to move it to, make sure you drill a small starter hole first. If your not sure then take it to your local dealer or luthier. |

Same problem-- Orson Welles-ian bulk (me) and 1971 Balladeer deep bowl (guitar). I solved it by putting a Planet Waves "quick disconnect" clip loop around the headstock, just above the nut under the strings, doing away with the strap button issue altogether.
The strap connects at the headstock. I wear the guitar kind of high; I adjust the strap so that the guitar doesn't move at all if I let go of it. It works sitting or standing. May not be for everybody, but it does work for me.
I also use the quick disconnect on a CS 257, even though it's a shallow body and is easier to hold. I just like the way the guitar hangs with the strap clip system on it. |

Location: Los Angeles | Thanks for the feedback - I think I will pass on the philmax idea - worse than vegetables and exercise...
It sounds mainly like I need to think about where the strap tethers. Mine tethers on the bass side of the bowl. I am nervous about drilling in the neck so it looks like my choices are trade up to contour or the head strap solution.
alpep: I dont think its pressing the bass side as I can just put it on and it rotates with my hands free...
Once again thanks for the feedback (let me know if you are skinny and have a contour).

I haven't yet had too much trouble with that, but I do have a shallow-bowl Adamas that I got from a larger guy, and he had moved the strap button to the treble side of the heel. It took some getting used to, but it does make for a better balance while playing standing up. On a deeper bowl, I imagine it would make more of a difference. |

Location: Chicago area | I had similar trouble on 6778LX. I wished that the strap button and output jack locations were swapped (since that would pull the bottom of the guitar down/in a bit. After playing around a bit I found a trick that is hard to describe. Here it is:
lengthen your strap by about 6-8", then loop the strap around your instrument cable jack. Effectively when done right that is same as having the strap fixed lower on body and it helped alot. Then you can go grab a cheeseburger ;-) |

Location: CT | Take your shirt off, and slab on some paint. Now strap on the guitar and where your belly rubs the guitar, there's a big paint mark. Cut out the painted area, and then glue it BACK into the guitar backwards, so the curve goes in. Contour bowl custom fitted to your frame :D |
