I won a 20050 Collectors off Ebay from Superiorkayaker on the 17th and have not heard a thing from him since..
Was wondering if anyone in OFC might know of his whereabouts - I'm a little far away to do much about it from this end...
I'm beginning to think the deal is off, yet his feedback is good and I've read nothing bad on this forum either..
Any ideas??
Thanks heaps,
David. |

Expect honest dealings and some Ovation knowledge to be evident. |

I actually competed against him for my olympia papoose. For some reason he didn't complete the transaction, and then it was relisted, and I snagged it. |

also not sure of his OFC user ID but I reckoned someone over the pond must know him..
My fear is the deal is dead - I was really keen on the 2005 Collectors too...maybe I stressed too much about safe freighting and jinxed myself!! :D :D
Thx anyway for replies..

| Don't know him myself but I am sure if one of the guy's on the forum does they'd send a message for you. I know it is difficult sending money overseas.

The selfish part of me hopes it doesn't. (I like being 'exclusive'.)
But the Ovation evangelist part of me wants to spread the word.
Great sounding guitars amped and unplugged. |

I can only ask if any of the "local" board members know him you convey my utter frustration and wish to see this transaction completed...
I asked EBay to help with a seller not-replying to emails complaint - the usual generated reply and stuff "I" can do but as yet NIL assistance on their part...
I rang him from here in Australia...recorded message only...
I am fast running out of ideas of how to get this beautiful instrument paid for and shipped..
Any takers??
Cheers,
Dave..
Hey Muz, U may still have the monopoly on 2005 Collectors here in Oz..!!LOL |

SK is obviously still alive and kicking... |

yes, my hope is to pay and secure the item and then leave neutral F/B with a stinging comment at this stage. Although I reckon I've done nothing wrong I don't want to open the door for neg F/B on me. And also I don't reckon neg F/B helps in general..
I've arranged freight from here, so that's taken care of, arranged Escrow payment.. but no replies as yet from Art..
THe other items HAVE been received by the buyers, just mine has develpoed some "project inertia..."
And it looks and is reported to be a really nice instrument which makes it is worse..
My utopia (unlikely I know..)would be if someone says, "hey, I know Art, I'll drop in and see what's going on.." Or "I live in XYZ, I'll give him a call on his mobile.." That would be supremely helpful..
Anyway, thx for your thoughts so far, Cheers,
Dave, |

I never got paid, no more response. I think he died.
I hope SK is alright. |

Art has emailed me and we seem to be progressing..
Tony Calman - shuld I be thanking you for intervention? If so, Thx heaps..
FWIW, I searched all over the net for cost-effective(read, not getting ripped off blind..) methods of air-freight.
I found by accident EXCESS BAGGAGE was the cheapest. Instead of paying retail rates for DHL/UPS etc, the Excess Baggage guys buy wholesale space on pallets/aircraft containers, pack it themselves, and then the whole lot gets loaded as one item by DHL etc.
To compare - Wisconsin to Sydney DHL Express = $399US.
My sydney baggage firm= $278AU (about$214US !!!!!!!)
It will go on the same plane, same customs clearance etc etc..
A WORTHY TIP I RECKON..
Cheers,
David |

tune out if U like.. little rant, following my sorry story...
so I find a company who do door to door (US to Sydney...) pay my money...wait...
wait some more...get sick of waiting...
get the mobile of the main guy.. he spots "the problem", sends an email direct to US office.. should be all sorted.
I wait, .... wait some more...get sick of waiting...again...
ring the seller myself.. his wife says something is happening but not sure what. Can't tell me if it's been collected..
I email the US freight office...
Now the lucky door prize!!
WE DON'T SERVICE HIS AREA..
He'll have to get it to us.. then we can send it on to Sydney...
I'm about to spontaneously combust with utter frustration. Have I done something to deserve this contemptuous treatment??
I won this Ovation 2005 Collectors on 17th Sept, and it's 29th November now.
Maybe I'm being punished for crimes in a past life??
Sorry for the rant guys.. but frustration is palpable now...
Cheers,
Dave |

I know that doesn't make it any easier but It'll make ownership of the 2005ES even sweeter when you get her in your sweaty little sunburned Aussie paws.
What about Paul Blanchard's advice about USPS now accepting Ovation sized packages to Australia? Anybody out there that can confirm this?
Muz
PS. No, she still doesn't know. |

AFAIK, it's still Aust Post who impose the limitation... so unless USPS have done a deal with a freight crowd like FedEx/UPS?DHL who they can subby out their larger international items, and I'd be suprised if this was so.. they'd still be limited by the Aust Post restriction. But I'd also like to know where Paul gained his advice, because if it's legit, it would avoid a world of pain..
Update as of this morning...
email back from US freight office...Fedex will get it from Arthur's house to the freight people's office, then they will forward it to me (via DHL they said). I'll get a DHL tracking number but not a Fedex one..
My frustration is still palpable but gently simmering now,, marginally below boiling point of molten steel..LOL.
U crack me up - she don't know...
Want me to send U a chrissy card congratulating U on yr gorgeous gift from U to yourself?? might break the ice gently??!!!!!!!!ROFL..even funnier when U tell here and she says she's known for months..

Location: Canberra, Australia | Well, happy Christmas to me!
And a happy new year..
The guitar arrived yesterday arvo..
pretty amazing service - arrived DHL Sydney 1141hrs,cleared customs 1141hrs,with courier 1306hrs and on my doorstep 1630hrs!!
No damage, no extra customs or freight charges and it seems no hidden suprises.
Well one actually. Guitar came complete with all it's tags, owners manuals etc etc tucked in the case.
I'm guessing factory strings - they have coloured bridge ends unlike the usual plain brass rings.
The machine itself is immaculate. Couple marks here and there - VERY minor tho'. Very much looking forward to getting to know it,,
A happy ending to quite a protracted saga....
I s'pose Muz you're not the exclusive agent in Oz now for these babies..LOL.
Cheers,
David |

The coloured ends probably signify D'Addarios. Keep using them, they sound great. Don't use Martin strings. They'll sound OK for about 3 minutes, the D'Adds will last 3 weeks.
If you ever get up to the Sunshine State, give me a call. But don't mention MY 2005ES to the missus, OK? |

Happy XMAS guys over the pond..!!
Knowing many travel over the period, if board members or relatives are coming this way (well Sydney specifically....)please feel very welcome to drop me an email. More than happy to show U round sunny Sydney or at least get U on yr way. Same goes for NSW in general.A foreign place with limited time can be a real pain, and local knowledge is priceless I reckon. Best of all it's free!!
Cheers,
Dave. |
