...was early for my daughter's swim meet in a neighboring town that I'm rarely in so I wandered into their mom and pop geetar shop. There on the wall was brand new, factory refurbished '03 Collector among the 50 or so others (maybe only four of which I considered picking up). Never played one before but I gotta tell ya - this thing was great. Seriously overpriced I think (asking $999) but played great. The neck was perfect (anybody know the profile on that neck? I gotta write that one down!), amp'd it just rang some great chords and there was a kid in the next room who put down a Lukather model to come in and ask what the heck I was playing.

If anyone hasn't but gets the chance to play one, do it. Great guitar. :)

Any guitars that cross path with Ovation's service department are like new or even better.

I've done that in music stores too, Weas. Walked over to people and said, "What the heck are you playing?". Didn't have anything to do with the guitar, necessarily...

There's a long story that goes with the 2003 collector refurb. that has been discussed here several times. There was a time when the refurb was going for $799 new. I don't believe they sold very quickly even at that rate. Personally, I thought it was an excellent guitar, but the general guitar playing public didn't seem to feel that way.
