| Hi guys,
Sorry if this is a stupid question.
I've been shopping around for my first 12 string. I've tried a whole bunch, and the best one to my ears was an old 12 Balladeer. So I've been looking online, ebay and such, for a similar model 12 and have come across a 6751 model. It says the pickup isnt working, so I was wondering if it is possble to get a replacement pickup for this model guitar, and if so, where can I find them? Also, would it be possible to upgrade the pickup to a newer version system?
I think it has maybe an OP-20?
Hard to tell from the photo.

Thanks guys, looking forward to your responses. |

| that's the preamp you have pictured, it's an op24+,pretty good preamp. the pickup is at the bridge in the saddle assembly,
Jason's right, contact @ Ovation, but you should diagnose whether pickup or preamp faulty first.

| Cool, thanks guys.
If it did need replacing, any idea how much it would cost to replace? |

| Ok, thanks Johnnycash
Are there other 12 string models I should look at other than the 6751? the 1866 worth a looksee?
I'm really hoping to pick one up for around the $500 mark. |

Location: Chehalis, Washington | Do you want a deep bowl? If so, I'd check out an 1866 over the Balladeer - I just am much more a fan of the Legend series. A nice CL12 is awesome, but it will be more spendy. About the only difference from the Legend to the Custom Legend is the extra inlays and "bling."
Or, unless you're not a fan of the multi-hole setup, check out something like this:
1758 Elite 12-string
The deep bowl Elites have an AWESOME sound. I have a 1718 (6-string version of the 1758) and it's one of the nicest sounding guitars I've ever played. |

Location: SoCal | Andrew...my CL's all snapped an E string when I read "the only difference from the Legend to the Custom Legend is the extra inlays and "bling.'" to them. I do have a GC 1118 that can stay with them but I haven't heard a Balladeer or Lengend that can :p
Now, back to the post...I have a 1669 CL that had dead electronics when I got it. It wasn't the pre-amp, it was the saddle. Kim send me a new saddle and I plugged it in, that simple. Most of the time, it is the saddle that fails.
As suggested, check with Kim or John at Customer Service. |

| Ok will do.
So I found this other 12 string, its an 1866 - but the description says "There is a very slight 'bow' on the top below the bridge. Unfortunately, this is a common occurance on 12 strings due to such high pressure on the strings."
This is apparently depicted in http://i14.ebayimg.com/06/i/08/96/af/f7_1.JPG
Looks ok to me though. If there was a 'slight' bow on the face of the guitar, is that likely to screw up the sound or intonation? |

1982 1656 Legend 12-string
A "bow" isn't necessarily a major thing - from the one picture, I can't see much to be concerned about. Sometimes older guitars will pick up a bit of a "bulge" below the bridge from the tension balance on the top. My 1869 has that, and the intonation is perfect, and for a shallow bowl has the best projection I've ever heard.
I'd want to see more pics before I bought, but that's a nice looking guitar. |

I meant the main difference is the cosmetic stuff. I prefer the sound of the CL's also - just a notch above.
OvSal, there's another nice-looking 1866 here, that looks to be about dead mint. It's a $750 opening, but should be an awesome guitar. |
