Location: New York, NY | I'm looking to pick up an electric 12 string... What older 12 string Ovations are good? Any thoughts on other brands? Obviously the Ric's are great but I'm hoping to spend a little less. I played a 12 string Schecter hollow-body which I really liked - does anyone know about these? I think they're a GC only model but I'm not sure.

Location: NJ | fender 12's have very thin necks and are hard to play.
rics have a very narrow profile and are hard to play.
I have also owned kapa, peavey, and a pile of japan made things.
the only one that I LOVE is the hamer newport 12.
great sound great neck great guitar and I have owned all the big names and a bunch of others. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | OK, now hear me out on this ... I played a DAISY ROCK 12-string that was amazing. It cost about $400. and for the life of me I can not figure out how they make it so cheap. It was honestly one of the better electric 12's I've ever played. Just scratch the "Daisy Rock" logo off the peghead and you're all set. Seriously, you should look into this.

Oh well, I'm man enough to say YES if I was looking for a reasonable priced and great value electric 12-string I WOULD actually buy the D-R. I would scratch off the logo and write "PRS" in Sharpie. On the rare occasion that Tom Petty or The Byrds ask me to stand in with them, I have a pretty nice Hurricane that dies the trick. Dave |

Location: New York, NY | Thanks for all the advice. I'll look into the Preacher and see if I can find one to play somewhere in NY (anyone offering??? :p ). Otherwise I think I may go for the Schecter. I picked it up at GC and had a lot of trouble putting it down.
I saw the Daisy Rock but just couldn't bring myself to pick it up... I'm comfortable in my sexuality and all, but if they wanted men to buy their instruments they woud have chosen a different brand name. :) |

Do you really like the sound of your Hurricane compared to an Adamas 12 plugged in (I know you hate A/E but maybe?) I think my 1597 sounds better plugged in than my Hurricane in every situation. I've found the 'cane to be rather "boomy". What about yours? |

Location: New Hampsha | If I play both through a Fender Guitar amp (Power Chorus) the Adamas blows the Hurricane away. If I put the Hurricane through a bass amp (Hartke B90) and fiddle with the profiling I can get the Hurricane to sound OK. Just wonder if you found the sound to be "boomy" and if there was something I was overlooking to fix it. |

Location: Australia | I play a Rickenbacker Carl Wilson model 12 string.
I really like the headstock/tuner arrangement, it isn't neck heavy like most electric 12's and it doesn't have a long goofy looking headstock.
As Al rightly says, the narrow neck can be hard going for those with larger paws. |
