Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | Just got back from a concert by The Flower Kings. For those that don't know, this band is probably considered one of the current top Prog Rock bands currently making music. They just put out a new album this year "Paradox Hotel" which is outstanding.
Anyway...they played a relatively small venue "The ORIENTAL THEATER" that probably seats under 600 max so a very cozy and intimate setting. The Oriental is an old converted movie house and that type of conversion has become very popular in Denver...probably 15 similar venues of this style throughout the metro area. Kaki King just played the Bluebird Theater last week (slightly smaller...probably 400 max). ProfessorBB and I went to that show and he took a bunch of pictures he is planning to post.
OUTSTANDING SET....played 2 1/2 hours (and if you are a fan of progrock you know that means about 10-12 songs ;) )
Almost everything they played had never been performed live before this tour. They played about 4 cuts from the new album and then the rest were songs that came from different albums over the last 10-12 years.
GREAT vocals, extremely good musicianship and tight considering the complexity of the music.
After the concert, they put on a meet and greet with the people who wanted to stay and chat a bit. I hung around an extra 1/2 or so and talked with most of the band members. There were still a lot of folks visiting when I left.
A highly enjoyable evening and I recommend any fans of ProgRock to check if they are in your area any time soon and check out the show! |
