No. We wish. We beg them every year, around maybe May or June, or in the early days March, to let us in there, disrupt production and annoy everyone, but they just keep flipping us off. What a bunch of assholes.

Thats strange...cause...when I worked there...anyone could tour the factory as long as they gave some notice...as a matter of fact...I know you can drive up to the service area and walk right in...ive done it lately!...it's a very small , old new england 5 story brick building that employees nice people from the surrounding areas...and is a very firendly place!

Flume, I was joking, we've invaded the place for the last 4 years in a row. 5th anniversary coming up. All of us who have made the trek have nothing but the utmost regard for everyone up there.

Bill, sounds like a plan. Leave the Collings AJ.

First off welcome. Interesting you bring up Schaller heads. I have a 1112 at the factory right now and am in conflict with myself as to whether I should up grade the Deluxe Chrome tuners that are on it to to gold Schallers. Just what are the tuners that are on it now? And how do they compare to the Schallers?

1112 would be a non-electric Custom Balladeer. The 1112 was spec'd with Chrome Schaller M6's. Some models had M6N with black nylon casings. The gold versions of the Schaller M6 tuners are identical in every respect to the chrome M6 except that the gold plating corrodes a lot faster. If the gold upgrades are not Schaller, but are Ping or whatever, don't bother.

OK, first question for you. Hypothetically if someone is placing an order through a dealer for a custom spec'd guitar in the $3000.+ list price range and is willing to pay even MORE to have them OMIT the label on the inside of the bowl, why will they NOT do it? I DON'T WANT A F*CKING LABEL AND SOME GLUE NAZI INSISTS THAT I MUST HAVE ONE AND INSISTS THAT IT HAS TO BE EXACTLY IN THIS CERTAIN SPOT.

Sorry to dump this on you at our first encounter (I'm actually a very nice guy). But THIS is driving me f*cking nuts. I hate the damn label, I hate how it looks, I hate where it's located. I swear to christ I'm going to take a big freaking TAYLOR label and stick it right over the Ovation label and be done with it. How hard could it possibly be to hit me with some additional upcharge and send the damn LABEL guy on break for 2 minutes when my custom order rolls through his work area?

Welcome to the OFC. Dave

Thanks for the greeting!!Been a while....but...I believe those old heads have plastic parts on them. I can't remember the brand, I use to know this stuff back in the day, but, plastic breaks over time...buy schaller heads of your choice online somewhere...you will save alot vs buying from repair shop...replace yourself...(easy!)..and never worry about them again!

Paul, are you saying the tuners on the guitar right now are the M6 in chrome? The tuners I'm thinking of are the gold tuners that are put on the Custom Legends. Are they the M6's you're talking about?

Thanks...Dave

They should be. If they look like this they are M6

http://www.stewmac.com/shopby/Instrument/Resonator_guitar/Tuners/Sc...

I've seen recent Custom Legends with Schaller clones but weren't Schaller. The import tuners are OK, but there's something about the teutonic precision of the Schallers that instills confidence.

the only Ovation I own right now, is a 1993 collectors series... I've had many others over the years!!...There was a time when anyone that worked there could sign out any guitar they wanted for a few days to try them out....that was cool!!!

Colt, they're M6. Best machines on the planet unless you need someting open-geared for vintage instruments then it would be Waverly

Paul. much appreciated. I really wasn't sure what was on the guitar and the Ovation site just says they are Deluxe Chrome. I have always been impressed with these, now I know why. Thanks.

With the guitar at the factory, I thought perhaps if an upgrade was warranted I would go for the gold and pearl. Now you got me thinking again.

Flume, Tupperware is the deranged alter ego who took over the body of StandingOvation, who was also deranged, but at least had a respectable name. He does have a great guitar collection, but it seems to have been overtaken with his tupperware collection. He started collecting real plastic bowls and Martins instead collecting plastic bowl guitars.

Hi Flume,

the Schaller factory is a stone's throw away from my home:

Can I you help you with your Helmut Schaller history project?

BTW, I'm toying with the idea to arrange an European OFC gathering at the Schaller factory next year.

Welcome, Plume;
You have been thoroughly initiated now in all the orthodox OFC ways; our site is definitely not for the faint of heart or thinner-skinned guitar player. ;)
But, having said that, the folks who visit here are also compassionate, caring, helpful, watchful in the matter of on-line sales, good friends--so please accept this gentler welcome from an Ovation-playing sister.

--Karen and the teeming masses:

1111-4 "Gertrude;" CE868LX-4 "Jewel;" maple Tornado (not named yet); Viper 1271-4 "Blanca;" Guild D-50 "Gilda;" America Strat "Ivory;" Steinberger Spirit 5-string bass "Sugar;" Galiano mandolin "Plink;" Vega 5-string banjo "Twang;" fiddle of uncertain antecedents "Shriek"

I played that also at the '05 gig. Truth be told it wasn't the rain. being tired, or barely knowing the song that messed me up. It was being distracted by playing such a gorgeous guitar!!!!

OH NO! ...WHY DID YOU HAVE TO SHOW THAT PICTURE AGAIN???

I wanted that thing after I saw it the first time, and had dreams about it for a week. I even called Keller and asked if he'd think about selling it. He said he may consider a trade for a Mercedes. So that pretty-much dashed my hopes. I don't think I could ever afford a custom order on one.

I am amazed that they never made that a regular production model. Oh well ... it looks like another sleepless night.

LOL!!.....I have meet Bill many times, he is a real cool guy...he had a really nice old Caddy convertable that he would drive up to the factory....Don't know if he would remember me....but, alot of crazy things have happend up on the 5th floor, but, I can't say I ever saw Bill up ther smoking anything...I don't remember seeing him smoke cigs.....so your guess is as good as mine about the kind of smoke comming down from up there!!...lol...it's kinda like the attic of the place...we kept the discontinued parts up there...you could build any old solid body ovation has ever made with the parts up there.

Tough crowd.
I heard that he'd be 55 this year. Now that is really old, past prime, over the hill, outta touch. Definately makes him a member of the OFC (old farts club, why? is there another OFC?)

I have many great memories of working there!...here's a good one, the skittering bowl reminds me....there was a guy that worked there...probably still does, Frank Morell ....Anyway, back in the day all the screw ups...or scrap, would go into a bin till it was full, then we would distroy all the bad parts....this guy frank was sent to cut, break, distroy some messed up bowls....so instead of cuttin them with a band saw....he decided to lay one on the floor top side down and crush it with a damaged neck....so he raises the neck over his head like he's chopping wood....comes down on the bowl and the neck bounces off the bowl and hits him right in the forehead...almost knocked him out....he had a giant goose egg knot right in the center of his head....that was pretty funny!!

caddy's gone and someone else can answer the flume question. I don't think it was part of the tour.

I think that conjugating Llamas is illegal in most states north of the Mason-Dixon line (but not the District of Columbia).

The one l lama, he's a priest,
The two l lama, he's a beast,
And I will bet

There isn't any

Anyway, cwk2 as a site name? C'mon! He could have done much better than that. Like:

"THE GREAT ONE"
...or...
"Kiss My Feet"
..or....
"Bow Before Me"
..or...
"you think YOU have guitars?"

You know, something a little more creative that would have given a hint.

I kind of like "Taterhead." Especially since I'm trying to think how long it took me to figure out who CWK2 was. Maybe a couple months. I had already bought "the Book" though, and had some history that wasn't corrupted by the jokers on this board.

I don't know how I missed it.
I just stumbled on the Captains animation work a couple pages back.

Sorry guys. I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the cwk2 thing, and can't help wondering if I'll post with a different attitude knowing THE GREAT ONE reads these. It's like you go thru your day, stop and say a prayer, then continue to go about your day. God may answer down the line, indirectly, or not, but he doesn't pop up right next to you when your finished. Picture this: You're home alone, and you turn on your computer so you can scan ebay for O's or read threads on the OFC. You "accidentally" stumble upon a porn site, and have every intention of moving on, but the eyebrows raise, and you look for 5 or 10 more seconds. Then you feel a tap on the shoulder and Jesus is standing there pointing his finger.."I see what you're doing, and I know what you're thinking, so don't try to think up some lame excuse..."

Trust me. He's a regular guy. So much so that I had to edit some of his comments out of last year's DVD. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Also happens to be pretty nice, for a regular guy.

...which brings me to this year's. I realize it's been 5 months, but for some reason this summer has been busier than any in recent memory (I have to rely on 'recent' memory because... well, you know...). I'm almost done with the Jam portion (most of the disk - 29 songs). The classes, lobby stuff and slideshow shouldn't take long compared to that. I'm trying to get it done, honest.
Thanks for your patience and ominous silence.

I am very impressed at the simple fact that he is first and formost a guitar junkie just like us.

..Also, I haven't met him yet, so imagination runs wild. Maybe at the next OFC factory tour, he'll drink too much and pee on my shoes. THEN I can stop calling him THE GREAT ONE, and start refering to him as cwk2.

There was only one GREAT ONE and Jackie Gleason is dead.

I don't drink, but Ckiff or Moody would be happy to pee on your shoes for you. They've had practice.

And the story really goes that you're at a porn house and waiting in line at the peep window, waiting for this guy in front of you to move so you get your turn, and when he finally moves you see that it's Hay-Sous himself and he gives you a "Whatchu lookin at?" look.

You suppose Cliff wears those rubber shoes with all the holes in them because it's easier to clean the pee off them?
We've had a thread about Dave peeing in his pool and now we have one on peeing on shoes. No wonder I like this board.
So who is going to be the one to break the news to brainslag about Santa Claus?

Amazes me how some of those characters have withstood the test of time. Even beyond Bugs, Elmer, Daffy, Roadrunner and Porky, the second tier characters like Pepe, Foghorn and Granny are still great to catch. Classic stuff (that is, of course, unless you count the violence that has totally desensitized and ruined the youngsters of today  ).

My favorite was the Roadrunner and Wylie Coyote. Nothing too mild about those cartoons. He was regularly blown up, crushed, flattened, torched, and smashed.

I lost touch with alot of old friends when I left in 1993....I have great memories of the old place and the people that worked there...I did run into a few peeps still working there since I've moved back....I stay pretty busy at my job now, and don't go to the factory....I do ride my motorcycle through the parking lot once in a while...glad to hear Frank is still cranking out the magic for Hamer...I need to get in touch with Rick H...we had alot of fun back in the day!!
