Location: Oregon | So, some friends and I are starting a band. One kid didn't show, but we had me on guitar, a bassist and a drummer. Anyway, we started out awesome, we did NIB by Black Sabbath, and replayed the opening riff of Smoke on the Water since not one of us could remember how the rest of the riffs go(I don't own any Deep Purple).
Anyway, we just took turns soloing over those riffs and it was great. Then we doodled around a bit which was alright. Five hours in all.
I have never played the blues with a double bass blaring from the drums... it was alright actually. |

...I've officially lost it.
Sounds like fun - I did that a year or so ago with Woody and some buddies of his - a real eye-opener to what's possible! |

On a related note... my son told the wife and me last night that he has finally figured out what he's going to do with his life... be in a band. Please pray for us. |

Prayers sent... |

I went to move my daughter's car one day and the CD started blaring, "Starf**kers" over it had a remote and I was hitting the rewind button while I was trying to turn it off. My daughter told me it was a song about people who marry movie stars. I said it was a song about seeing how many morons will buy a CD if they shout obscenities into the microphone. She's living with a drummer. I'm being punished for something. |

Location: Tennessee | Cap't ... not to worry. This is normal. Boys need to try on all kinds of things to figure out what they are NOT going to do with their life. My son was going to be ( in successive order) a professional skateboarder, a pro football player, a punk rock star, a novelist, a professional fighter, a hot-rod builder, a rockabilly star, a tattoo artist. He was/is very good at all of them. He is now a US Marine Corps sniper. Last weekend he was talking CIA. Since he turns only 21 next week, I figure there will be a few more. It's all good. Just support him and tell him that if he's going to try something, he needs to be the best he can be at whatever he tries on. |

Location: Kingston Ontario | In Texas I jammed every week with a country and bluegrass band for about four years. Now in Ontario I jam with a jazz group twice a week and a song writer once a week.
Life doesn't get any better.
When I was working in a group on a regular basis, we would start off every rehersal with a 5 to 10 miute jam. Everbody improvised. |

And Cliff, I doubt I even get free pizza. More likely, he'd try to sell us drugs. |

But hey, you know what you call a guy who delivers pizzas to your door? A drummer. |

A: So they don't have to re-train the drummers.
Q: How many drummers does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: Five. One to change the bulb, the rest to cross their arms and say, "I could have done that."

Lord, save us from Rap, in all of it's incarnations. Especially white-people rap, and (Heaven forbid) white-people Christian rap! |

Location: Utah | I get to jam with "The Band" every couple of weeks. "The Band" consists of my daughter on flute or violin, my son on violin, and their violin teacher (a truly amazing professional violinist).
There's nothing as fun as playing music with your kids, and there's nothing quite as strange as classic rock (Beatles, Aerosmith, Eagles, etc) played on guitar, violin, and flute. |

Probably a remake of the Star, Star. It was originally titled Star F&*ker, but the record company wouldn't print that "back in the days". Rumor has it Mick wrote it for Bianca after they split and she started hanging out with Hollywood types.
Q: What do you call a drummer with no girlfriend? A: Homeless. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Could be, Bob. I was driving back with the same daughter one time and she had to listen to our music. My Sweet Lady by John Denver came on and I told her that I played and sang that for her Mom on our wedding night. I asked her if she thought (Blank) would play Star F---er for her.
72tour, I didn't dare bust the stereo, because I knew I'd have to pay for it. While we were looking for a car for her we were talking to a car salesman on his cell phone. He was checking the mileage on a car when the phone went dead. When he called back we asked what happened. He said that when he went to turn the car on to check the mileage, this big voice behind him yelled, "Are you ready for some rap, Mother F---er?" It scared him so much he dropped the phone. Obviously there was a CD player, but we didn't buy that car.
How do you get the drummer off your front porch?
Pay him for the pizza. (Actually a school joke.) |

You just got to do some Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull. |

He likes all sorts of music, and plays pretty well. Belive it or not, I really enjoy good punk music, metal, even emo and screamo (if the music's good). he likes a lot of the same stuff I like, like Husker Du and Dinosaur Jr. His band at least has more singing than screaming. |

Location: Marlton, NJ | It's the screaming that usually turns me off... I can take the music in some cases. I took my son to see Flogging Molly... except for the three weeks of deafness afterwards, I liked it alot. Of course the bands that went on before them we're... shall we say... putrid! |

Location: GA USA | I don't mind the screaming as much as the low demon growl. I like Opeth's music, but the growling...
We have a local hardcore band that my son's band plays with a lot, named Silas Marner. Their singer is a cute girl, and her "singing" is a low growl. It's almost comical. |
