Location: ranson,wva | i recently aquired a 12 balladeer from a friend on long term loan and i need to get a tuner. my old korg-30 wont get the job done on this on this task.
i was thinking about getting a intelatouch(sp?) because it can handle a wide range of tuneings(SP?) but if anyone has any oyher sugestions im open for any and all coments..thanks jason |

You should be able to tune the lower octive string of the pairs with the tuner, E A D G B E, then tune the E A D G higher octive strings to the 12th fret of it's mate. The B & high E strings are tuned to the same octive as their mate. Take pride in knowing you can do this easily by ear and forget wasting the $$$ on the fancy tuners.

Location: Warren,Pa. | I'm a very fussy tuner. I touch up my 12 string every other song in a set. In this situation I need a better tuner...one that will grab the note fast and hold it long. If you don't play out, or aren't too fussy, or just simply don't mind taking time, a less expensive tuner like the Korg GA 30 is great.
The more money you pay for a tuner, the quicker it will grab a note and the longer it will hold it. |

It is not my best tuner but it is the one that gets used the most....for 6 and 12 strings.

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | You can drive yourself nuts with getting tuned up. The CA-30 should be able to get you close enough.
Some people are really finicky about being in tune, really bothered by a micron out of wack. I'd say just get into the area, where you can say, hey that's close enough and then go for it.
If you want something fancy, try one of those planet wave stompers. The lights sure look pretty. |

Location: Utah | The Korg DT-7 is a great tuner. It has the Buzz Feiten offsets as an option, and I think that they do improve the apparent sound of being in tune. It works great as a standard chromatic tuner also.
I'm one of those picky people with being in tune and the intonation of the guitar. A 12 string is at a disadvantage for intonation, so I tune the octave strings by ear, not to the octave of the string it is paired to, but to the higher string.
For example, the A string is tuned normally. The octave A string is tuned to be in tune with the A played on the G string at the 2nd fret. The D string is tuned normally, and the octave D string is tuned to be matched to the B strings played at the 3rd fret.
This method works great especially when playing open chords in the first 3 frets. If I'm going to be playing further up the neck then I will tune the octave strings to the normal 12th fret harmonic (unfretted tone just touching the string at the 12th fret). |

Location: ranson,wva | when i tune my six strings i tune the low e with the tuner and tune the rest off of the low e. something my pop's allways did,first string 5th fret..ect..ect...i guss i can tune the 12 the same way..
you have to take in to conideration that this it the first time in 8yrs that ive picked up a 12 string.
i taught my self basic guitar in 4 1/2 weeks so i dont see this being a big hurdle..thanks for the help guys..jason |
