Then I started exploring backwards (from 252) and found that, from half way down page 18 to page 252, (20 members per page) all those members have zero posts.
By my reckoning, of the 5060+ members, about 4660 members have never posted anything.
That means that there are only really about 400 active members.
Thanks to the other 399 great guys n gals that make this the best bar in the world. (cheap beer too!)
...and no, I'm not bored. I've actually got a lot of work/study to do, and I'm procrastinating! |

At least three times each week I see a "new member" notice, and it's followed shortly after by an email from that person with a question. I answer, I always add a comment about "you might want to post in the forums for a more detailed response" and that's the last I hear from them. They got what they needed, and that's great, that's part of why we are here.

Rest assured once I get started you will not be able to stop me.

Location: Shotley Bridge, Northern England | I suppose I represent the 'inactive' membership to some extent, having only a few posts to my name. Miles and Al are absolutely right: I lurked, and read, and lurked and read before posting. I've benefitted enormously from the information on the board; this has directly helped in the purchase of 2 Collectors in the last 3 months. I've been helped directly by Paul T to acquire some ebony tuners (impossible otherwise here in the UK, unless ordered from the USA). I also have laughed a lot at some of the jokes, avoided falling into the 'strings, string tubes and llama' traps (not going to ask...) and overall I've been very impressed with the supportive nature of the forum. Oh, and its good to see that some people aren't shy about their spiritual and religious side too. I'm a member of other boards related to other subject areas, and sadly there is little of the humour and kindred spirit evident here; instead there are flame wars, self-appointed experts and very insular viewpoints. This is a nice place: I like it here and I intend to stick around (despite jokes about my name from Schroeder :) )

Mark ;) Not exactly. You might want to come to the factory tour to see how Al got this little lady to agree to go back to his room with these 7 guys... Take note of whose U681T she chose to play with :D :p :D :p

This is the first time I have looked. Carefully and statistically analyzing the professions (what is that saying...90% of statistics are made up on the spot), the largest segment of member looks to be centered in the category "Artists". Cool, I would expect that, but then it is followed by a large number of Accountants, Bankers and Architects.
That tells me either....A) This is a very weird group of musicians (the word rententive comes to mind) or B) That based on the recommendation from these very conservative, value minded professions, the Ovation/Adamas represent the best price/performance guitars on the market. Or maybe it is both A & B?
I will choose to believe B, although my gut is telling me A. |

Not at all. Just that he was smart enough not to post it.
Notice the response I gave. Another pointer: a proper fear and kissuppityness of the moderators can't hurt. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | First time I've looked, too. I don't know what to think about being number 12 (13th if you add both of Witko's alter egos). I have to think that people who have been members for twice as long but have half the posts must have something better to do with their lives. Then there's people like Waskel, who have been members for just a little longer, but have way more posts.
I suppose it may be an occupational hazard that I feel compelled to say something even if I don't know what I'm talking about. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | The post counts in the member directory are corrupted. A few months ago they all got temporarily set to 0. Once you made a new post it reverted back to the previous (correct) total. If you have not posted in the past few months your total is 0 even though you may have posted thousands of times prior to then. The total that is reflected in the footer of any post on the message board is accurate, only the directory is corrupted. For example look up member #51. Directory says he has 0 posts. But do a search on his posts and he actually has more than 50. So don't go making assumptions on the totals in the directory because 0 posts does not mean really 0 posts. Dave |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Tup, not sure where you are looking. I only use the stats from my admin panel. In there it sais #51 has 52 posts. I've checked others so that's accurate. I think the "directory" may indeed be off, if that's where you are looking. Still a whole bunch 'o people. FYI... if you search on that member, and look at his posts, you will see the post count there is also correct. Interesting.. But again.. still a whole bunch'o O people. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Miles, Yes it's the directory that's the issue. Click on "directory" at the top of the page (between "my profile" and "search"). List members by member number. You'll see that the vast majority have no posts listed. For example scroll to tommcatt (I think on page 3). Member number 51. Post total is blank. But his real post count number is 52 (as you saw on the admin panel). Once he posts again the directly will show 53, instead of blank. It's a strange quirk that happened about 2 months ago. I first noticed it because Standingovation count was 5000 (I know that for a fact) but all of a sudden the directory showed zero (actually blank, but it means the same thing). SO made one more post and boom, his directory listing was back to 5001. Most of the "heavy hitters" posted so often that they never noticed that the directory temporarily went to zero. Dave |
