Location: Canada | Hi Folks. I posted here just recently as a new member, excited to be getting my first Ovation. Well, almost. I won an auction on eBay for a Korean-made older single cuttaway Applause in great shape. I thought I had a deal. Unfortunately, the guitar is unplayable and probably unfixable. Basically the action is ridiculously high and despite the prior owners attempts (over tightening the truss, removing the pickup so the saddle recessed a bit) it's unable to make music. A shame since it's a great looking guitar, it even came with an official 'Applause' HC. The bowl is nice and deep and it's a lovely greenish/black burst. It certainly looks well made.
I poked around with a mirror and a flashlight and it looks like a set neck - wood (despite it being finished in a type of black plastic). I was hoping I could remove it and place a shim under there if it was bolt on.
I took it to an Ovation dealer/repairs center and they were basically of the mind that it was unsalvageable. I did have occasion to play a high end USA Ovation while there so at the very least I know how good they can sound.
I'm going to try to get a refund from my seller (he offers them apparently) and buy a proper Ovation or Applause later on down the road. I'll be back. |

Many great sounding and playing USA O's can be had for under $500. |

Location: USA | Applause guitars should not have an Ovation seal...
nice guitars but not on the same field.
My friend has a Rouge...and a Applause...
The Rouge blows it away.
I really feel that they have sold the applause the wrong way...kind of a blind side if you will...its not an Ovation...and folks have bought this guitar thinking it is...
you get what you pay for...
There is a huge difference my friend.
as the who sing...well sort...
Dont get fooled again... |
