Hi Scott,

The Academy was an entry level student model built in our Moosup Connecticut plant around 1980. Only built for a couple of years there were some hundreds built but no accurate figures. Since they are fairly rare and built with a molded plastic top interest has grown in them recently. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I have an Ovation Academy guitar.
It was a gift so I don't know when it was bought or much else about it. I've loved the guitar for years but didn't know until recently that it was an Ovation and that its sort of rare at that. The serial number of the guitar is 014238 and I was wondering if you could tell me anything else about it. Do you know when it was made? How many Academy's were made? Why does this Academy not look like the KA 17 model I saw on line. Why did Ovation stop making these, they appear to be sought after on the Ovation fan site?

Thanks,

Scott

SEE THERE - Even Ovation themselves call it PLASTIC. I rest my case.

They didn't have to. Everyone already KNOWS the bowl is plastic. It's the matching tupperware cover that makes the academy unique. Dave

In related news... we have to stop Jason the next time he bids $20 on a guitar. That's just criminal.

BTW, we're forming a Bottomfeeders' Guild. You can't stop all of us. Resistance is futile.....
