Sorry if I offend any PITA members or vegetarians out there, But are there any hunters on this site? and if so, how have you done this year?

Myself, I don't hunt but I think everyone else at work does. A couple of them have properties up by Fletchers Pond. Over the past 4 years they have organized a large area of surrounding neighbors to agree on what to shoot and what to leave be. Everyone has stayed with the program and they are all now benifiting from it.
My oldest son is going up near Mio over Thanksgiving.

Don't hunt, but I got a Buffalo Leather jacket.
That's what grocery stores are for.
The real ironic and annoying way to sign your name for this thread would be to list the fire-arms you own.

its a way of life where i grew up at in the backwoods of west virginia in a town of under 400 people, the nearst town with a grocery store was 45miles away and in the winter it could be weeks before you could get out of the hollow...so if you didnt hunt you didnt eat bottom line....plus i enjoy it to a extent. there is a certain thrill looking thru a scope on my m14 at 500-700yrds seeing a object the size of milkjug and squeezwing the trigger...jason

I don't hunt but don't mind it. Down here there's much more fishing and that I will do occasionally, more for the day on the boat than the fish but they are always a bonus when they're biting!

I don't hunt but I have nothing against it. PITA can kiss my ass. There's a reason humans are at the top of the pyrimid. I love meat. I love leather seats in my car. I love it that drug companies can experiment on animals before they experiment on me. If I did hunt, I'd make it my goal to bag a spotted owl. Hug this ...

My daughter works for PETA, but I don't know where she gets it. I used to hunt birds, but just ran out of time when the kids were growing up. I've owned bird dogs for 30 years, but the current one is just a house pet. She wouldn't know what to do with a bird.
Deer and elk season is like a state holiday around here.

". . There's a reason humans are at the top of the pyrimid . ."

Park your ass in the domain of a Bengal Tiger, a Polar Bear or a Great White Shark with that t-shirt on.

Humans are no more than cockroaches with cars . . .

I used to hunt but havn't done so in years. I also really don't mind if others hunt.

But I do think in the interest of leveling the playing field a bit, I would propose the following changes to our (Michigan) November Deer season:

"Hunters are allowed to bag as many deer as they care to kill, however, they must live full time in the woods and may bring with them only a loin cloth and a spear".

I don't hunt only because I've seen a lot of guys who do. I don't want to be in any forest where those guys all have guns.

I wasn't raised a Hunter but I enjoy fishing. I also like to hone my Man-skills by bottom feeding on Ebay and Craigslist.

That and playing a mean game of "Slug Bug" or "Cruiser-bruiser" with my Daughter!

I hate the rifle season because of all the wackos running around in the woods with guns (many from down state, who don't have a clue where they are or where they're going). I therefor hunt with a bow in the early season. It's a lot more challenging, but also more rewarding. Don't get me wrong though ... I think everyone should own as many guns as they can, and know how to shoot them accurately. That's one of the best deterrents we have in this country. :)

Deterrence to what? Not that I disagree with gun ownership, I will inherit the guns I shot as a kid on some future date.

I DO believe that gun control means being able to hit what you're aiming at; but gave up hunting because venison gives me gas that even I can't stand.

Brian T`s suggestion was a good one :D , but if hunters do dress up in a loin cloth wielding a spear , then they might want to take a crash course in Body Building first..I mean..pale pot bellies resting on a pair of tooth picks..really now

I hunt. "The Season" is the best time of the year. Haven't posted much here due to much field time lately.

bvince, have not shot anything with the rifle yet, however, have gotten some great video of some good bucks.

Best of luck to all who do hunt. Enjoy your time afield.

My Mom lives in Holladay TN. Farms and Woods. The deer would hide on our property, cuz we wouldn't allow anyone to hunt on our little patch of paradise. We put out a salt/vitamin block for them, scraps, we got pears and apples. We didn't hunt, but we eat venison. Our logic is; the deer feel safe on our land, teach their yunguns the same thing. If we ever get real desperate, Bambi is Dinner! Don't care what season it is, it's my property... it's my deer!

Brian-- Ted Nugent would agree.

Fortunately, we have been poor, but never that poor.

Oh, Enfant-- You ever been to a nude beach? It is not as nice as you might think!

Two of the resident does on our property outside of Houston. The one on the left is pregnant in this photo and the one on the right is her previous year's fawn.
About a month later I came across her newborn and it survived the foxes and coyotes and is currently quite large and wondering why her mother is now being chased all around by the bucks.

I only ever shoot them with cameras, but I do like to hunt cottonmouths and copperheads, which we have plenty of also.

Actually, I was able to get off quite a few shots before they bolted. It was taken with a 300mm telephoto so I wasn't any closer than about 150ft. They are pretty tolerant about being approached, up to a point. We have a small pond nestled between two wooded areas, and they often come up to the otherside to drink while I'm fishing in the evenings. Here's an 8 pointer. This is a frame grab from a video camera, so the quality is not as good.

This was taken through our bedroom window, a couple years back in our last house. When we'd leave they would eat the pansies right up to the front porch.

I'm sure that this song has posted before for this subject, but Mr Moody's post made me think of it again:-

http://www.sigitas.com/artist_t/tom_lehrer_lyrics/the_hunting_song_...

We don't do hunting here on the Isle of Man. It's a gun thing, apparently. Although some guys on horses did have a drag hunt the other week (like a foxhunt, but instead of a fox, the hounds follow the scent of a 'previous' animal that has been dragged along a course...

I, too, prefer fishing.
Drinking while fishing is FAR more acceptable than when guns are involved.

BTW. This 'cuda was released.

That's a huge 'cuda, well over 50lb.s I'm sure. We don't have them much off the Texas coast, but we'd occasionally catch a kingfish over 50 lb.

This is from about 30 years ago, my Dad with a 51 lb. king.

I have gone on a hunt only twice, but that was many years ago back in college. Since I moved to the city, I haven't had the opportunity to do it again, but the hunting experiences that I had with my friends and former classmates was definitely a great time.

I made more trips to slaughterhouses, than going on hunting trips. I'm not a vegetarian ... in fact, I love ribeye steaks for dinner with a passion! I'm not against the killing of animals for food, as long as it is done as humanely as possible. Just IMO...

Thanks, Vic, it was beautiful. We sold it a couple years ago, and I miss it.

The deer were great on the jump shots. Passing and lay-ups, not so much.

Try a BassGuitar instead of a bow next time, tune the lowest string ½ step up,use an arrow with real feathers and a flint tip,and if that does n`t do the trick, then there`s allways the local delli.. ;)

Nice King your Dad boated Rick. My largest was about 40 lbs.
I did land a 62 lb Cobia (aka Lemonfish) a number of years ago.
