Location: Fayetteville, NC | James Brown passed away early this morning,'He was 73! Ok, he didn't play an Ovation, heck he didn't even play guitar that I know of, but those who remember the soul of the 60's haveto remember
papa's Got brand new Bag, I feel Good, Cold Sweat(in radio teh long version was know as a great bathroon break song) and later on Livin' In America(in the 80's) There were others. It's just always sad to loose someone who gave so much to music. |

Although JB was born in South Carolina, from the age of 4, Augusta Georgia was his home. He was pretty much an orphan, and grew up on what were truly "mean streets".
In many ways he was almost as big an influence on me as MLK Jr.
His music will live in my heart forever.

Location: Minden, Nebraska | In my days as an electric player, I wanted to be John McLaughlin with a James Brown groove. Somehow, that didn't quite work out.... JB certainly knew how to connect the energy of music to the souls of people. He touched some spot deep in me that was likely the result of some miscegenatin' back in the Louisiana of my family's roots. |

It must have been far from a quiet christmas 'upstairs'.

Location: NJ | Just heard on NPR that Brown & his band were planning on rehearsing right after the Holidays for an upcoming tour . . .
. . . it also said that the band was planning on going on with the tour, and were debating about whether or not to get a new lead singer . . . .
. . . .
. . . .
. . . WTF???? |

Location: Cicero, NY | You can get any "lead singer" you want, even Tup (and I got a chill just typing that), but the show just took an immeasurable drop. JB, regardless of his, ahem, "social skils", has a place among the truly irreplaceable.
Papa may have a brand new stage but it's the same ol' bag an' there ain't nobody carrying that. |

My point exactly.
The "Act" is JAMES BROWN.
No matter how tight, how good the band is, THEY are not James Brown.
It would be as if Presley's band went out on tour a month after Elvis bought the bathroom . . . |
