Location: Chicago | Which is better? Adams pickup and electronics or the evolving line in the Wood=top Ovations? Why are they so different? Besides "knobs v. sliders"....
I have been doing an A/B on my Adamas 1581 and my Al Di Meola Signature Legend (I have both OP-PRO and STUDIO). |

Location: Scotland | Personally I don't care for the 2-knob electroncs, original or current updated version. I think it's the lack of any midrange control. Plus I've found that the 2-knobs feedback earlier. My various guitars have Viper 3-band, Op24, Op24+, Optima, Op50 and Op-Pro and I don't really have a preference, I can get a great sound out of any of them. |

Location: Scotland | It's weird, I can get a great sound from the old stacked-knob FET3, which is pretty similar to the 2-Knob Adamas/1537 electronics, but I've never warmed to the sound of the 2-knob thing. It does look cool though.

I haven't used the redesigned version at a bunch of gigs and that's always the decider for me. I have a 1581, factory coverted from 2-knob to Optima, it's one a my favourite gigging guitars |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I have two knobbers, both vintage and reissue, stacked knobs, Op24, Op24+, Op40, Op50, Optima, VIP, the Viper 3-band, and the VXT hybrid. I can't remember if there is a Studio somewhere in the mix, and I know that I don't have any Op30s. I love them all! These days, the controls on the guitars are all preset as similar as possible and then I just leave them alone. Everything is controlled via the pedals or at the amp and house board. If feedback is ever an issue, it seems to be with the stacked knob model (1651 Legend Ltd), and usually then only with the open A sting. |

Location: South of most, North of few | IMHO, the best amp they ever put out was the Optima. The old OP24 (single knob, 3 sliders) was up there too. Paul's right, the two knobbers do tend to feedback easily. The FD had the most foolproof system. Plug it in, and no adjustments. |

Location: Chicago | You folks have confirmed a frustration I have with the 2-knobber: With some tweaking my 1581 sounds great across the board. Plugged in I have problems: almost impossible to EQ on borad and early feedback. I am going to convert! Love the guitar, not so crazy about the electronics.... |

Location: Germany | I've got three guitars with the reengineered two-knobber preamp (OFC, 1682 and 1538). Indeed, they are more feedback sensitive but I use airlocks when I play on stage so this is not really an issue. Handling is foolproof. I don't need the equalizer stuff on board - sound is generated in my Boss boxes and mixer.
My second choice is OP24. Sound is mellow and warm. To me the later preamps are overkill. Some years ago I replaced the original OP24 of my Adamas 1688 with an Optima. I really regret that.

Location: Budd Lake, NJ | When I sent Gertrude home to Mom a few years back I had them put the one I think of as the "Adamas" pre-amp in her--the one where the battery box is by itself to the left of the controls, and has the notch filter and 4-band equalizer. Plugged in, she sounds incredible with it--a warm, smooth, deep contralto-like sound that's even across all the strings. (Of course, it doesn't hurt that her beautiful top is pushing 40....)

Furthermore if you are having feedback problems a compressor can make matters worse if not used correctly. The Trace Dual Comp is one of several that are good for acoustic instruments, but it won't cure early feedback or substitute for more flexible EQ. |

Location: nyc area | What paul says is true... I use an outboard preamp for another level of eq. In my case a sans amp acoustic DI. I have friends that use the baggs di and I might switch to that. Adrian Legg use to use the fishman dual parametric. Every acoustic instrument has 2 resonant frequencies. the soundboard is one and the box is another. both midrange and fairly close to each other. I use airlocks or a feedback buster for the box and a notch filter or parametric for the top. |
