On the Thunderhead the pickups and wiring harness were DeArmond. On the Tornados the pickups were Schaller (basses too).

here is a question I have always had about the storms.......they all look the same (minus finish and binding), what are the differences structurally? Also, are they worth buying? I'm not a big fan of semi-hollow guits, but I love all ovations....should I buy one?

eclipse has black bowl paint chrome hardware
tornado various finishes chrome hardware
thunderhead has gold hardware and dearmond pickups

basically that is the difference as far as I can tell

should you own one??? well the question should be shouldn't we all???

they are bolt on but IMHO much better than the stuff you get out of korea these days for the same amount of money. is it a gibson 335 well no is it as good as an epi or a hagstrom absolutely

I totally agree,
I have played an es335, and also the Fender's answer with the Coronado. I think Al said it the best, that it is not an ES335, but it's better than a lot of guitars that style made today. The Thunderheads do seem to be put together a bit better than the Tornado's when compared side-by-side, and the Black Eclipse I find to be a very cool guitar. As I understand it, the Eclipse came about because of tornado/thunderhead bodies haveing imperfections and not being able to be finished, so they put the same stuff that is on the backs of the bowls to finish them. They are a very sharp looking guitar and play well, but are supposedly the "economy" line. There are also Tornado's and Thunderhead's with tremolo systems similar to the Gibson or Bidgsby style bridge. And of course... there is a Bass, a Fretless Bass and a 12-string. All quite nice instruments, and you can still get them at a decent price.

If you can find one of these and it's cheep enuf and does it for you, get it. You got the money get an old 335. the logical alternative is to get a Hamer Newport with humbuckers and a stop tailpiece. That is the ticket now, but what do I know, I just used to work there.........

btw did you try the monaco? I did at the Namm show and that is another winner IMHO. Hamer is putting out a top quality product with TONE TONE TONE. someday the rest of the world will wake up....
