Location: 6 String Ranch | Is there a lable in the bowl? It would be model number 1187-8 and the s/n would be xx-xx. Are you sure that's not a 26? I would think it could be 26-88 or something like that. 88 is the fundamental frequency of the body. The ones in the 80's or low 90's sound a bit bassyer ( is that a word?) Does it have the original case and case cover? We sprayed the case with a mist of the body color and some of the sparkles too. |

I just checked both of my early adamases and there is no serial number written under the walnut trus cover?? Without a label it would be impossible to trace the correct serial number.Maybe it is written on the bracing like most other adamases..According to ovation the slotted headstock adamas did not appear until serial number 26 and ended at 62...
Any way you look at it ,it is definatelly an early adamas slotted headstock with the early inlays, carved heel, gold binding..
The only mistery here is the exact serial number?[ April 01, 2002: Message edited by: samova ]

Location: Central Oregon | Wow, those guitars are really beautiful! Works of art on several levels. I sure would like to get my mitts on one of 'em for a few hours. There's no way I could afford to actually buy one. With the high opening bid on the one on ebay I wonder if it will sell? I seem to do better selling if I set a really low opening bid on things to get things rolling. At any rate I'm glad you posted lots of pix, it was fun to look at. Thanks for the eye candy!

The only thing is that it's permanently attached, so you'd be getting me in tow (and I LOVE TEQUILA!!) along with it.
Know any "Buffett" tunes? |

After all, they are sisters!
In the pic you can see who else (besides lucky us) used to own and play the legendary slot-head Adamas: Marcel Dadi, old Charlie, Glen Campbell, Nancy Wilson, Neil Diamond, and other, not included here.
Thanks!

the Adamas #0031-88 comes with its original tan OHSC, which is heavily glittered too, as well as the leather-like tan Ovation case-cover. As you mentioned the fundamental frequency of the body is "88" and the Adamas #0031-88 is indeed very bassy!
The label inside reads "model 1687-8, serial No. 0031-88, 4-21-1976", and it is signed by Charles Kaman.
I too I checked and there is no serial number "31" written under the walnut truss rod cover.
Bill, I would love to see pictures of your slothead Adamas now. It's only you left.....

Please take a look of Marcel Dadi's Adamases, with slotted-headstock. The one in the pic indicated, may be the early prototype (serial #19, 20, or 21) that Dadi owned.
What do you think Bill?

You can see the early prototype (#19, 20, or 21?) along with other later complete slotted-headstock non-cutaway (the blue 1687-8, and a beige one) as well as later slotted-headstock cutaway Adamas : the legendary orange cutaway and the beige cutaway with slotted headstocks!
Enjoy the pics!

I think you're right that 19' 20 and 21 were the bearclaw rosette ones. Marcel had one of those too.
I checked mine and there is no s/n under the rod cover. |

and cliff, it's hard not to sing a little jimmy buffet with op to 70 sailboats anchored in front of our village, so grab that adamas and come down next season (this one comes to an end around may 1 with the HEAT) and i'll be sure it is you both are under the spotight. |

Location: NJ | The "investigation" continues....
I now have some new ammunition in which to find out "20 or NOT 20" (Many thanks to Elias, Sam and Bill for the phone calls, it was certainly a pleasure talking to all of you).
Okay, so I don't have a label or any documentation,
this morning while I was leaving for work, I compared the neck width with that of my Custom Balladeer and I really don't see any appreciable difference (although I haven't yet put a scale to it), and there seems to be no previous precedent of any sort of "numbering" under the truss rod cover.
From what I've gathered from you fine, astute gentlemen is that I MIGHT find some sort of number written on the side of one of the braces.
My Quandary: the guitar is strictly ACOUSTIC and has no access door for electronics. I suppose I could ring the edges of the soundholes w/masking tape (for protection) and "probe around" with a little gooseneck mirror and a flashlight.
....Or....
I'm due to schedule a thorough exam with my physician. Being 46 years old (egads!) that may require the services of the dreaded "SCOPE" (ouch!).
Maybe I can bring the Adamas and "a twenty" and possibly get "Two For One" deal.
(With my luck, he'll forget which one doesn't get the "lube"!)
....it's beginning to sound like we may need to get all this s/n crap straightened out and gather all these things (and their owners) together in that lil' nightclub "down Mexico way"? |

I guess 54 might be a possibility (although it dispels about 26 years of local legend - I hate when that happens!), but I know that my guitar was sold (by Ackerman's) to a child hood friend of mine by the name of Frank Pugliese.
I even have his original sales receipt that he gave me when I bought it from him.
hmmm....on to "the scope"!

i guess with all of the recent chumming of the e bay waters i'll have to watch the horizon for adamas birds if i want to catch one when my piggy bank gets fat enough again. nursing a broken foot in front of the computer has made the ribs show on that little piggy. not a good thing for an ovation junkie. i'm already planning a special room for my expanding "big O" family. |
