Location: Shelton, Washington, USA | I was just looking at the reference section of this site.... under the section for 4-digit model numbers, it says that models starting with an S are factory seconds.... Does that mean that all of the S778 and S868 Elite Specials are factory seconds? And if so... why are they listed as S778 and S868 on the Ovation website... I('m gettin' cornfused here.... |

Location: Atlanta,Ga. | Jim, i think the "S" designation is for the "Specials"..The Balladeer specials and the elite specials both have the "S" in the model number according to my catalogs,so i think its for special rather than factory second..They may have used the S for factory seconds years ago but im very sure it does not mean that now. They would never offer factory seconds in a catolog.Ovations model and number system is very screwed up as a few members have already mentioned here... |

Location: 6 String Ranch | The S only applies to older models I think. If it is being used now it's because they came up with a new model and needed a number and whoever comes up with model numbers now is new and didn't take the history course. Happens all the time in companies today, people are not sensitive to what happened 25-30 years ago and the push is not for the employee to learn all about the company, the push is "here's what you need to do to do your job today" Understandable but unfortunate. |

Location: Shelton, Washington, USA | thanx.... i kinda figured that's what it was. I'd hate to have to go home and tell Maggie that she's a factory second :( I've noticed the inconsistency in the model numbering system before but yesterday was the first time I'd seen a reference to the S models being seconds.... Logic? we don't need no stinkin' logic..... |

Location: Maryland | How rare is this Elite on ebay? They say only
1000 were made. The walnut top sounds a bit
unusual to me. Also ebay has a real nice preacher
looks perfect.

If they say there were only 1000 made you can count on that.
That Preacheur does look to be in nice shape. It's a 12 string and those of you who want a deacon 12 but can't get one this is the one you want. Same everything except the body shape and fingerboard inlays. |
