Hello again.
I bought my Adamas SMT 1597 (SN. 16470) about 5 weeks ago and have been very happy with it so far. Unfortunatly I discovered a fault, which I didn't spot in the shop. All the tones on the 15th fret are dead or really muffled. I do not play much lead style, so it took me a while to notice. Looking along the neck while holding the body of the guitar towards me, I discovered a slight bulge on the fretboard between the 14th & 16th fret. I had the frets checked out, and they are perfect, the actual fretboard is slightly raised in this area :( ((
It looks to me like the bond between the neck and fretboard in that area wasn't done properly or came loose and has bulged up a bit.
Call me picky if you like, but I think a class instrument at that prize should not have a fault like that. I will return the guitar to the retailer tomorrow and hope this can be sorted out somehow. Could any of you give me an idea how long a repair like that could take?
BTW, I live in Ireland, will the guitar have to be send to the U.S. for repair? I play at least 1 gig per week and don't really want to be without my Adamas for too long.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Last I knew JHS was the distributor for the UK. Give Skews a call, maybe they can help

Thanks for the info, but I think finding & contacting the Distributor for Ireland would be better. I hope my retailer will know whom to contact.

BTW, Ireland is not part of the UK :p

Klaus, JHS will probably handle the ROI also. If they don't they will know who does. I've had dealings with them over Ovation parts & sevice & they've been fine. The phone number for the service dept is 0113 2320082, the website address is www.jhs.co.uk. I'd get it back to the dealer in the first instance.

Just a quick update.
I returned my SMT to my local dealer 3 days ago.
He is going to a trade show in the UK on Sunday 16th of June, where he he will meet with the distributor who sold him the SMT in the first place.
Any ideas what will happen? My guess is they will replace the SMT with a brand new one.
My local dealer thinks it will take about 2 weeks until I get my SMT (replacement) back :(
Man, I miss my Adamas so much, using an old Epiphone(Gibson) for my gigs right now, just not the same.

Klaus (in mourning)

In 1995 I bought a new Pinnacle 12 string. model5869-5p (very nice)Within two months the intunation was severly out of order..Playing anything beyond the 4th fret was out of tune.I had saved for years to buy one decent instrument, and after swearing I'd never buy an Ovation...I bought one!I was crushed.I did not want to void the warrantee, so the next "official" thing to do was to bring it to a certified Ovation technition. When I got it back,It still was'nt right. I called the tech. man,who told me it would have to go back to the factory...and to bring it to the dealer who sold it to me.During all this time I had to rely on my old Yamaha 12 to get by.(no pickups or bridge mics)That was the year Kaman stopped the Pinnacle model...I was told I might have to settle for a lesser model....The factory went good for one better(OH Yes!!!) and promply sent it out to the place of purchase.Ok here's hard part...in the week that it took for my new instrument to get to the dealer ,and after waiting several months to feel alive again, I stopped into an other dealer just up the road from the first. I told him all this He said "I know a guy at the factory...I send stuff back to him all the time." It was'nt the factory... it was the dealer.Kamen Co.kept thier end of the bargain. Your woes may endure for a time, but in the end the dealer is the one responsable to make this right. If the dealer is any good you should be back to playing soon.If this drags on , the dealer is poorly connected. (please excuse the length this post.)

Update #2
I finally got my Adamas SMT back from JHS in the UK. They did not replace the guitar, instead they did a bodged up job on 2 frets :(
The Fretboard must have been taken down a bit on the problem area and the frets redone, BUT....
one Fret sticks up slightly on both sides, all the tones on the 16th fret are still muffled and there are small marks on the side of the fretboard (badly finished). I told my dealer that I was not happy and have now demanded a new Adamas SMT from JHS. My dealer made a few calls and informed me that a brand new SMT should arrive in his store from JHS in about 2 weeks.
I'll keep my (old) Adamas until it arrives.

BTW, my dealer gave me a Martin with build in Pickup for the last 2 weeks. Nice guitar, but no way near as nice as my Adamas SMT.
