i just sort of inherited an amp with one bad channel that will be great for beach gigs when i get back. it is a sound tech AL-1R. it has 4 channels and a graphic eq. one channel marked mic/inst is dead though the rest seem to be functioning fine.

any opinions of this amp? it sounds decent for what i intend to use it for.

what do you think might be the cause and possible fix for the dead channel. any simple tests i can do. any vom tests i can do?

time to give up the borrowed computer.

adios amigos

i hope i didn't stump you guys. this unit is an amplified loudspeaker. i figured paul t would have posted a step by step test and rebuild proceedure with 2 options by now. has anyone had experience with sound tech gear? if it is a piece of junk feel free to tell me, as i have no attachment or investment in it.

Russ, sorry about the delay, I've been real busy trying to coerce Breadwinner parts out of MoodyPI.
If memory serves you've got a decent piece of kit. Hundred watts into a single 12, fairly beefy carpet covered cabinet, some kind of extendable handle doodad. It's a PA in a box and ideal as an acoustic/vocal amp. As the other channels are working the dodgy channel is probably down to a dry joint or some minor component failure. It's not rocket science & any competent tech should be able to make good. If you can identify the dry joints & you're handy with a soldering iron you could probably fix it yourself. In any event it's worth repairing, these things had a list price in the US of over $400.

thanks paul. i rec'd a reply from the company today and they said the channel in question was not for a guitar but for midi or xlr mic jack. they will send me a manual, so maybe nothing at all is wrong with it, though the second channel looks like the first and both are labeled -40 dbm balanced. the first is labeled microphone and the second is labeled mic/inst. list was 550 and it has wheels and an extendable handle. good for my bad back. it has a 12 '' woofer and a pizeo horn. looks and sounds pretty good on channel 1. also has a cd/tape channel and a line aux channel for 4 total in and has a line out and external speaker jacks. i think i'll wait for the manual before i start taking it apart.

cheers amigo
