Hi everyone! I'm gearing up to buy my first Ovation guitar and I've decided to go for the Custom Elite, but I'm not sure whether to choose the mid-depth cutaway CE778 or the s/shallow cutaway CE868. I'm mainly concerned with the sound differences, although presumable the 868 would be more comfortable and that's gets consideration as well. Any help?

mid depth would give you more sound vol and resonance better bass response.

Jon;

If I were you, I'd base my decision on you're ultimate USE for this guitar.

If the "lion's share" of your playing is gonna be in a room playing strictly acoustic? If so, you might wanna opt for the mid-depth because (as Al stated) you'll get more "unplugged" volume, resonance and bass response.

However, if you envision playing "out" with it (or just "plugged in" at home), go w/the shallow.

A couple of weeks ago, at a music store I compared a brand new Legend 12 string (shallow) with a deep bowl counterpart (a few years older).
Even though the older guitar had a LITTLE more "low end", I absolutely LOVED the strictly acoustic 12 string sound of the newer shallow bowl (like a friggin' HARPSICHORD!!).

Granted, the strings on the older guitar MAY have been a little "dead", but for me (who'll use it predominantly "plugged in" for "work"...actually, "play"), I'm definitely going for the more comfortable shallow (that, and I just LOVE the sound!).

Thanks for the help, guys! I'm probably going for the shallow one for comfort purposes.
