Location: Chicago | My strap gave way and my guitar hit the ground HARD right at the top of the neck. Have since taken it in twice but now the whole middle part of the neck is buzzing. I am wondering if I broke the truss rod. I have access to an x-ray machine. Is it worthwhile to x-ray my neck to see if it's intact? If it IS broken, what then???
Also, the (highly recommended) shop I took it to said that it's hard to put a Schaller strap lock on an Ovation due to the lack of a block of wood that the lock normally sits in on a standard acoustic guitar.

Location: Shelton, Washington, USA | pardon the obvious questions.... but have you tried a t-rod adjustment since the drop? Has the neck or fretboard separated from the body? What model is your guitar? |

Location: Scotland | The shop was talking bollocks about the strap locks. USA Ovations have been factory-fitted with Dunlop straplok sockets for quite a few years. The Dunlops are much better than the Schallers in that the part that goes on the strap attaches more securely. There's no problem fitting either the Schallers or the Dunlops to Ovation acoustics. A great straplock for any standard strap-button is to use a couple of the little rubber washers that seal the flip-top Grolsch bottles (do you get those Grolsch bottles in the US?) Cheaper than the Schallers or Dunlops and you get a drink out of it. Dunlop also make an inexpensive plastic washer thingy that works with any ordinary strap- button
You didn't say if your guitar has a K-bar or conventional rod, but either way, if the drop didn't do any visible structural damage to the guitar it's unlikely that the rod is damaged. It probably just needs an adjustment.

Location: Chicago | Thanks for the thoughtful responses. I have had the neck already adjusted and the individual frets worked on since the big ba-boom. That was about 2 months ago. Since then there has been a progressive buzzing and loss of tone along the whole neck, particularly the middle. I miss my beautiful guitar! |

Location: Scotland | If the guys who gave you the advice about the straploks did the work, have the neck re-checked by someone else, then have them check for loose braces, it's unlikely but it may not be a neck problem.
