Location: Atlanta,Ga. | Miles, i was watching it the whole way and had a feeling it would bring a thousand or better..Ever since Josh Homme(queen of the stoneage) played one and they appeared in Guitar magazines their stock has risin..I know of four that have sold for between $1400-$1600..So, the one one on e-bay did not suprise me..The one i sold to Josh Homme went for $1475.00 three years ago...Its always good to see ovation solid bodies commanding higher dollars on the open market.... |

Location: Scotland | It's also indicative of how fickle & fad-driven guitar buyers can be. As good as these guitars are, if the Ultra GP hadn't had exposure from a high-profile musician they'd be lucky to fetch 2 or 3 hundred dollars. Look at the Ultra GS, not in the same class as the GP admittedly, but's it's difficult to give'em away. If a big-name ever starts using a Viper, Preacher, UK2 or whatever we can kiss goodbye to our bargains. Though I guess it would put a smile on the dealers faces & might even make Kaman think about re-issues.

Location: NJ | Well if the used guitars are selling for less than half of what a new guitar is selling for what is the point of making a reissue?
Personally I sincerely doubt that any of the Ovation solid bodies will ever be reissued. If you tool up to do them in the US then the list would have to be 2K bringing them in the stores at 1700 would you buy a deacon for 1700 when there are many in the 500-700 range? not at all.
I doubt if we could even sell a limited run of say 20 to the fan club. So that leaves us with imports that may be able to be brought in at the 800 price point and then you have the why buy an import if you can buy a USA model for less.
Don;t get me wrong Ovation solid bodies and storm series guitars are great for what they are quality made in USA guitars with innovative and quality parts but when we compare what is on the market for the same quality you cannot compete.
All of the under 500 guitars are imports these days. A decent USA made guitar is going to be at least a grand.
I am not sure on production totals but I would venture to guess that gibson sells more epiphones and fenders more squires a year than the entire production of the ovation solidbody output. |

-Al,
you are *so* right! Import guitars are way more higher in sales #'s than USA made guitars. And where quality used to be an issue from countries like Korea and China - it's not anymore. The quality IS there, and these guitars can be LANDED to a dealer for sub $80 for a strat copy - which they can turn for around 2 bills.

Location: Atlanta,Ga. | I was amazed to see the GP's go for $1400-$1600 each..In fact i must have received 50 calles and e-mails for those guitars after the november 2000 issue of Guitar World came out with an article of Josh Homme and picture of his two ultra GP's....Kids were coming out of the woodwork and paying "Les Paul" money for the GP's...They are very nice guitars but holy shit!! $1600.00 ,i saw four GP's sell for that kind of money....Hopefully the deacons and breadwinners will be next to go through the roof!
That should really piss off those Gibson and Fender snobs. |

Location: NoHo, CA | It's me Travis again. I bought the GP you guys are talking about. I'm also one of the guys who use to e-mail Sam about them. After years of searching I now have 2 GP's. I bought one for $400 and this latest one I dropped some cash on. Now I have people e-mailing me asking to buy one of mine! Pretty funny. I hope the prices of the other solid bodies go up. They're damn good quitars. Anyway, just thpught I'd let teh club know the GP was going gto a good home. Should be here nestwek. The guy selling it didn't have a case so I shipped him mine. No way I'm dropping that kind of money and have the guitar shipped in bubble wrap! |
