I just bought a Preacher 12-string on eBay, and when I went to 'crack the code' at the Ovation site, all I could find out was:
"E+5 Digits 1975 (Feb)-1980 Solidbodies"
The serial number is E 18500
Can anyone give me a clue about what the SN means?
Or any other information about this model?
It's Mohogany with clear finish, two humbucking pickups, pearloid mini-schaller type tuners. It has one volume, and one tone knobs, a pick-up selector, and another switch.
What's the other switch for?

Location: Scotland | The circuitry is essentially the same as a Breadwinner/Deacon. The two-way toggle is a midrange notch filter which dips 600hz. This makes the humbuckers sound a little more like single-coils, but the pickups remain hum-cancelling. It's interesting to note that Ovation pushed this feature as an early "acoustic simulator" The acoustic simulation found in lots of current multi-FX units is basically a few mid notches coupled with a bass & top boost. Ovation was ahead of the pack with this 20-odd years ago.
The pick-up mix is out of phase as standard, & the phase relationship between the pickups can be adjusted with a trim-pot found inside the battery compartment, there's also a trim-pot in there to adjust the output of, I think, the neck pickup. Strangely the both pick-ups on position is with the switch towards the neck rather than in the middle. The 6 string version also has the same series/parralel switches as found on the UK2.
