Pretty sure my 1117 has V11 bracing, Moody. I just posted a raw sound clip "guitar2" of the 1117 Legend ON MY OFC PAGE : it sounds pretty good, not too plasticky..... Don't forget that I've been banging on it for 35 years!!! |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Important to note that to some (maybe large) extent the X-A-VT debate goes out the window depending on WHO is playing the guitar. We've all heard masters of their trade make absolute POS guitars sound great.
In my feeble hands the differences become much more glaring. I've owned numerous VT-whatever braced ovations and they all sounded vanilla. But the X and A models that I've owned sounded noticably better to my ears. But that's just me.
Of course I just KNOW that I could sound like Tony Rice if I onmly had the money to buy a pre-war D28.

Location: Jet City | OK, I'm going to re-open discussion on this one. After having the one main cross brace reglued, my 1117 sounds better than ever.
I have confirmed with mirrors and a flexible light that this bracing is indeed some sort of VT, but not like any I've seen on others. There's no marks that a brace used to be up top, so I'm prety sure this is how it came from the factory.
As for sound, I like the overall tone of the "A" braced Legend better, but this one is WAY LOUDER, and not by just a little bit. It's noticeably louder than any other guitar I own except the 12 string, and that's even a close call. The other thing it exceeds at over all the rest is harmonics. The harmonics ring out like no other.
With all the VT naysayers, I can only guess that it's the odd brace and the fact that the headstock has a much greater angle that would make this one a bit better than a typical VT? |
