Location: 6 String Ranch | Well this makes two very rare pieces you have. Got any more? This guitar was completed September 18th 1981. Maybe it's the second one made or certainly one of the early ones, hence the prototype serial number.
How do you have two unique guitars and not the history that goes with them?
Sam, if my memory works this should be a few months after yours since that one was for the NAMM show (June). |

The history on this (and the other) is a long story. |

TJR, the second 81 is the fundamental frequency of the guitar.
Your other guitar is from the same time frame. There, your questions have been covered, the history please?

Location: Maine | I too understand the -81 was the freq. but what i never understood (perhaps cause I really dont play plugged in..or all that well anyway) is how a person would use that to select a guitar. I would like to understand that better. |

it is not a jersey thing ( but then again maybe it is) the guy has 3 rare guitars, has no clue about them, refuses to post how he got them , wants to sell them, and now says he cannot play. The top frequency would be far greater noticed acoustically then plugged in.
I call them as I see them.... |

Location: Maine | Personally I'm VERY offended at the idea that these are stolen or ripoffs. As far as knowing how the res. freq makes a difference is relevant unplugged if you had two of the same guitars side by side.. which I do not have. But if so how would you use that to base a choice of selection. I actually have much more I could share w/ this group but now I'm less interested.
These guitars were giving to me from a very Close friend. .. My Father Jim Rickard....
sincerly his son , Talbot. |

I accomplished what I set out to do and that is find out the history of the guitars. Sorry if that bruised your fragile ego. Get over it we are all grown. |

Be nice. That's as smooth as Al knows how to be. Love him or leave him (or at least tolerate him). |

It's knowone elses business and whether TJR decides to share that information or not is up to him.
Alpep, are you that obsessed with Adamas guitars that you have to try and railroad people into coughing up the answers ? |

Then again when a situation like this presents itself and answers are slow in coming you are not running on all cylinders if "hot" isn't one of the possibilities that pops to mind. In this day and age unfortunately it happens way too often.
Then isn't it nice when the answer comes out and it's a good one like this case that I'm sure will add to all of our knowledge about these guitters. |

That was 1 heavy Full Moon last couple of days. I think I may have Bamish'd my brain. At #362 I guess my number is way too high to be the one to push you over the edge brother. Litterally speaking. TJR - hang in there brother - no body believes me when I tell 'em my grandfather was a politician. Yeah, he ran for the Border... |

I believe you. Believe me, I work with a LOT of politicians in L O U I S I A N A. Say that slowly, "L O U I S I A N A . " And believe me, they can't run south of the border here. They have to jump into the Gulf of Mexico and swim to Mexico. Now, you wouldn't want them to drive over to Texas, don't you?
TJR, welcome to the club. Don't let its senior members intimidate you. We all try to be friends somehow. It's great that your father was a significant part of Ovation history and we all benefit from that! |

Shouldn't you mention to TJR, who is up there in New England country, that Louisiana is really part of New England exiled some years ago. Or was it Nova Scotia, which in my geography is an island (New Scotland) next to England where Paul Templeman lives and we haven't heard from him in a while. Any way, as a DeRidder land owner, I think we should invite Tal Rickard for a winter visit to Louisiana, not at Mardi Gras time cause it's to hectic, then he can see how Maine seafood has evolved into cajun gulf cuisine and cajun music, played of course, on Ovations. Get away from those frigid winters and hear some hot music in a warm 'clime.
He probably could even vote while he was there as an exercise in Louisiana politics and to defray his expenses. I believe he could put his vote on Ebay, that's how we do it in Nueva Mejico.
