"Notch" function with Op-X

What is the "Notch" function? How do I tell if it's working? Thanks. The notch function filters out frequencies which may be causing feedback when plugged in to an amp. I guess the only way you could tell if it was working is to plug in, stand real close to your amp with the notch filter off and see if you can get some feedback- then turn it on and see if it goes away??
