Need some help understanding...The Breadwinner project guitar currently listed on Ebay shows a serial # of 1028. According to the Research section of this site, that would indicate manufacture in '67-'68. I thought the Breadwinners were introduced in '72. What am I missing?

Thanks.

Hi, the serial number undoubtedly has an "E" before the four digits which would make it a '72. The electric solids had their own number series.

Take a look, there's no "E".

The reference guide does not apply to the solid body's..They had their own set of serial numbers. It is a 72 and some of the early nameplates with three digit and four digit did not have the "E" desination on the neckplate..The later ovation logo neckplate had the E before the serial number..I have seen several early neckplates without the E....The guitar cannot be before 1972 since thats when they were introduced.

Where can I find more information about the serial
numbering system of solid body guitars? I recently
bought a Preacher 12-string, and the serial number
isn't covered by the 'Cracking the Ovation Code'
page at the Ovation site.

The serial number is: E 18500

Hi Noel, that number should be about the later part of 1976.

A serial number in the 18 thousands would have been pretty late in production..This is probably a 1978-1979...
