Location: NoHo, CA | What's the deal with 'em? Do they sound good? Did they only make a P-bass version or is there a J-bass too? What's with the trem on some of them? Weird? Cool? Usuable? Overall are they worth hunting down (trem or not)? Or are they just something you get so you can finish off a complete solid body collection? I never hear anything about them...is there a reason?

Location: NJ | the bass trem has kept speaker sellers and reconers in business for many years. if you use one make sure it is with an amp with a 15 or 18 that is heavy duty that can take those low frequencies. I suggest no less than jbl ev or altec |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I have a couple of these with and without trem. I have only seen P-Bass styles. They are both nice basses. Nothing to set the world on fire, but definately nice working basses. I like the one with the Kahler a little better as it "feels" more "beefy". However, as Al points out, make sure your speakers can handle really low frequencies if you use it ever.
On thing that I think really sets the Ovation hard bodies apart, is the scalloping along the edge of the body and on the neck. It adds a lot to the look in a sea of look-a-like guitars. |
