I have a 1658 ovation 12 string manufactured in 1979. I purchased it used and have never seen another one like it. Using Kaman's code it would appear it is as the subject line describes. I will describe the guitar. It has abalone for the purfling, rosette and fret board markers like a custom legend. It has the carved walnut bridge and truss rod cover like a custom legend. It has the split head stock and joined at the 12th fret like a Glen Campbell model. Anyone have any ideas on the history of this one, # made, etc. I can find nothing in Walter Carter's Ovation History book.

The custom legend 12 string, based on the Pacemaker 12 was built from about the late 1970's to the early 1980's, when Ovation stopped making the sloted headstock 12's and also started building their 12's 14 frets to the body. It always looked to me that this coincided with the advent of the Kaman Bar which made a much more stable neck.

Back to the custom legend 12, I've got a catalog from 1980 which has them listed along with pics and specs. This is the only catalog I have which has a listing for them.
