Location: Liverpool UK | I have an Adamas 1687. When plugged in the low E string is *very* quiet. Do you folks in the know think that this is a problem that i could fix or would i have to send it into the local guitar repairer/tweaker. All the other strings sound great, but just the low E is very quiet. Many thanks in advance from a newbie for any help. |

Location: Scotland | One of the best things about the original Ovation pickup is that string to string balance is usually spot on, if it's not it's probably a faulty pickup. It's unlikely, but another factor could be insufficient down-pressure caused by too shallow a break-angle over the pickup. Try tapping the sixth-string pickup-element with your fingernail, if it's still quiet when you tap it, you have a pickup problem. Contact the JHS service dept.

As long as you're at the computer and answering questions about electronics, try this one.
On my Viper Deluxe (let the Ovationists try to figure out what that is!), I get a hum that goes away (or at least significantly decreases) when I put my hand on the strings or touch the cord where it's plugged into the guitar. Would this be a function of a bad cable, or have I screwed up the wiring inside the guitar? |

Location: Scotland | Paul, there should be a ground wire that goes from the cold tag of the output jack or one of the pots to the third bolt on the bridge. (the one that adjusts from the back of guitar) This is probably not connected. There should be a little spring-clip to attach the wire, which clips onto the bolt. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | If the Adamas has one weak string it could be a bad chrystal, there's one under every string. A replacement pickup will fix that. They pop out and plug in, you could go to a retailer and swap one out just to see if that really is the problem. The service dept can send you a replacemnet. It could be something else too not getting enough vibration to the chrystal. Make sure it is all snug in the bridge. Did you try a new set of strings? |
