Location: Glasgow, Scotland | I was this excellent site to research info on a used Balladeer I have purchased just today and cannot find the model# type in the table
The serial# is ” 446725 “ which indicates d.o.b 1992 but the model # is “ 1862 Custom Balladeer” and this does not seem to match the model table. Beautiful guitar, my first ovation, in mint unmarked condition, Black Cherry Burst, I believe it’s better than sex!.
Can you give me any info re the model??
The EQ has a single volume control with “FET3” printed on the control knob, and 3 sliders “bass, mid, treble” and the neck has abalone diamond inserts. Definitely genuine Ovation as tuners engraved on back and finish perfect on frets etc.
On Ovation home site, in Artists section, Cyndi Lauper appears to be using a visually similar model. http://www.ovationguitars.com/?fa=lauper
With one variation, the tip of Cyndi’s machinehead is Cherry, where my purchase is black.
I would love more info if possible, as I am fit to bust with curiosity.
It’s like having a new family member, and having no clue as to where they came from.
I have of course register on the Fan club site.
proud member 502 and I will be a regular visitor.
Best Regards

I think you've answered the question for yourself. The model is 1862. The color is probably a -bcb. The serial number you've got so that gives you the age. This model was also endorsed by Loby Dozer who I beliveve is also from your part of the world. | |

Thanks for the reply.
Loby Dozer , raised a smile.
In my part of the world, Glasgow Scotland, the name I believe means the following.
Loby (Lobby)- hallway, entrance, porch, etc.
Dozer(Dosser)- sleeping vagrant, typically alcoholic/addict, hobo, etc
therefore, Loby Dozer signifies an amalgam of the above ie drunk/high vagrant who sleeps in hallways, entrances / public places.
I am 47 years old and am not aware of an Artist of that name, but of course I could be wrong??

Location: 6 String Ranch | Ah but Loby Dozer was a comic book character with his trusty two legged horse. There is a statue of him even by one of the parks over there. Glasgow I believe? (Glasgow is west, Edinborough is east, right? it's in the western city)
Now the fun part, These comic strips were written years ago and recently revived in a book. The guy who wrote the book is an aquaintence of our good friend Jim Dunlop (picks, crybabys, MXR, capos and all that other good stuff we consume in mass quantities) Dunlop commissioned the statue and it's in the park over there. He also had a fibreglass repleca made and that's in his back yard in California. Loby Dozer on his two legged horse.
Great stuff that. | |

I did say I could be wrong!
You have now sparked off a quest to find that bloody statue.
Was Loby Dozer presented as a Scotsman?
When I find the statue I'll photograph it and send you.
more to follow.
