Location: Zion, Illinois | Just checking out Gbase.com and came across this guitar. I have never heard of this style of Ovation. Anybody ever see one of these.
Strange topped Ovation
What is the effect of the different woods? Is it structurally sound?

Location: SoCal | There are a couple of those for sale at Elderly Instruments. I think SeeDoubleYouKayTwo is gonna be the man to shed some light on those. Half cedar, half spruce.. very interesting. |

Location: Pennsylvania | Hmm. Strangely appealing. I think though it would have looked cooler to have a few more spruce-ceder variations, giving it a striped appearance (though maybe hindering sound). Nice anyway. |

Right, because if you look at the "labels" inside the Adamas guitars, they say "By Ovation," therefore implying that the pinless bridge, epaulets, etc, are actually Ovation style. ;)

Location: 6 String Ranch | The Garris Elite was the first elite with a thin line pickup, a fishbreath matrix. I think they had two piece epaulettes.
I couldn't get the picture up but there were two that were made half spruce and half ceder. I wanted to see what it would sound like. Answer, nothing special. I got the idea out of Danny Ferrington's book. There were only two and I unloaded them to Elderly. |

Location: Scotland | Bill, I have the Ferrington book & I know his stuff is played by some big names, several of them heroes of mine. I haven't played a Ferrington guitar or heard one other than on record, so maybe I should reserve judgement until I do, but from what I have seen & read I have a hard time geting excited about his work. There's a fine line between "handmade" & "homemade" & a lot of his instuments, to me, just look crude & lack finesse, which, bearing in mind the prices he charges strikes me as yet another case of "Emperors New Clothes"

Location: 6 String Ranch | The Ferrington book was published by Nicholus Callaway.(He also did the Madonna book) I know his brother Reeves (www.callawaycars.com) What he can do for Corvettes!!! When I met their father Eli,(golf) he was talking about the uke that Danny made for him. Reeves got me the book. I've not seen any of his work in person but I wouldn't be suprised to find what you say Paul UK to be true. Interesting concepts anyway. Hey, I had the ways and means at my disposal, why not try crazy stuff. Sure keeps it interesting. |
