Hi. My name is ____ and I am an Ovation _____!
Fan
Fanatic
Snob
Promoter
Endorser
Advocate
Embarassed Owner
Basher
Slappy
Worshipper
I'll go first and set the tone....
Hi... My name is Brad an I'm an Ovation:
FAN... Nope... strike that... I can't justify that. You guys would call me out on this is a New York second.
okay..FANATIC... I go to the tours, I go to the clinics, I sell the calenders (btw.. did you order yours yet??)... I wear the shirts and I have over 6k posts here. I thought I had an out and could be just a FAN because I like other makes of guitars. I just don't own any.
ADVOCATE: I do my best to enlighten other players on the features and advantages of the brand but I'm very careful not to come off as preachy or pushy.
SLAPPY: Maybe this term is just local slang. Perhaps another way to describe it is "loyalty". Not a serious, blind type you'd have for a king or a dictator but a kind of goofy, intangable aura or vibe. A happy, smiley face type of contentment.
How 'bout you? |

I'm in a 12 step program now to keep the ones I have. I've been through enough of them, so I should stop.. I really need to stop.. |

Fan is just a short form of fanatic and I would qualify as either of those. Ovation fan could be a subset of guitar fan, just like being a fan of a certain team could be a subset of football fan.
Promoter has some connotation of making money, which I've never done with guitars.
Advocate: I think I've sold more Ovations at the local Guitar Center than any of their salespeople, but I know when I'm on losing ground and don't push. I think that might be a bit weak to be called advocacy. Telling people that I have 15 of them usually gets the message across that I'm biased. |

I am an Ovation Adamas Promoter/Endorser/Advocate. Promoter because they are great guitars made by a great company; Endorser because it's what I have been playing live for nearly 33 years and I stand behind what I play; Advocate because they are simply great tools for music making that will stand the test of time, studio, and performance.
I own many other guitars but: These feel like home! |

Rickenbackers are hard to play, I went and bought one anyway
D A D D/C, D/B, D/C
I had to sound like Petty and McGuinn
I got some strats to be like Clapton
Les Pauls, so I could play the blues
Takamine and Kalamazoo, National and Oahu
There’s so many, and it’s always hard to choose

My basses are 4, 5, or 6 string
My guitars all are 6 and 12
Mandolins are cute and small, but I can’t play them at all
That’s why there’s only three hanging on the wall
For Jazz I need big fat archtops
And country I need that Tele sound
The Ovation sound is getting round, hope Fender don’t put it in the ground
I worked too hard to make it world renowned

But one thing I have never done Is bought an old banjo
When I die bury me in a hard shell case
It’s time to go visit all the stars
Got a gig up in the sky, maybe I can play some slide
And run the Heaven Store that sells Guitars.
I live guitars, there it's said

I keep on buying them up

Hi I'm Chuck and I'm an Ovation:
Fanatic/lover - I have played electric for the most part since I started playing guitar, so I never really had to have an acoustic for gigging, until the last few years when I was playing more acoustic only sets with friends and even then my friends always have had an extra or two for me to use. (I do have a fender beater for camping and such, but that's another story) Anyways, my friend owned an older legend that I fell in love with years ago when I was just getting started and have loved O's since. I just recently picked up my own O and eventhough I have played with various O's before, there is something about your OWN O that's just special. I've played Taylor, Martin, Gibson, Yamaha, Alvarez and Tak Acoustics on stage, sitting on the porch or friends couches etc., They were all quality guitars, I just have always preferred O's. I guess that's enough to make me a fanatic, well that and I'm currently saving up for my next O, lol.
Advocate/Endorser - I always try to play any O that I run across, they practically force one in my hands at the Knoxville guitar center when I drop in and actually I have on 2 occasions had 2 different guys approach me while I was playing. One pitted the Adamas I was playing against a Gibson he was trying out (I think it was a J-45, but memory is foggy) and the other was one of the new elite lx models against a nice taylor. I didn't really have to say much to either guy,(the guitars speak for themselves) they both had said almost word for word the same thing to me that I have heard many times after an O jamming session, "I didn't know Ovations sounded that good! I've always been told that they were sub-par Instruments." Before I left the store on both occasions I saw these guys carry out new O's. It's just sad that preconceptions keep these great guitars out of peoples hands, (but I guess that leaves more for us lol) |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Hi my name is Gallerinski and I am an Ovation Aficionado.
Websters definition of Aficionado - "A person who likes, knows a lot about, and appreciates a usually fervently pursued interest or activity."
I am also called Standingovation, Tupperware, Tacky, DiAZ, or Convex depending on several factors. My friends call me Dave.
I'm an advaned beginner player and very small time collector. I used to be an Ovation homo, but not any more. The best way to appreciate the finer Ovations and get rid of the crap, is to sample the better offerings from other makers. Variety is good. My collection consists of about 30% Ovation, 20% Martin, 20% Takamine, 20% ukuleles and 10% Collings. 0% Taylor - I think they are shit.
I'm 51 years old, married, 2 grown kids, athiest, republican, and I've had a vasectomy. I mountain bike, run marathons and use a Mac. I work in marketing and I do not own a gun.

I know 15 years ago when I moved here you would occasionally see some cowboy in the grocery store wearing his hat, spurs and side arm. Sorta funny to see him carry his grocery bags out the door and get in a VW Jetta.

Location: Utah | My name is Fly-Sig, and I am an Ovation endorser. My time and budget are too limited to have a vast collection, so I stick with what I like, which is Ovation. There may be plenty of other great guitars out there, but having one good Ovation acoustic is all the acoustic I can play. At least while there are kids and a spouse and a job. Someday in the forseeable future I'd like to replace my solid body electric (which works fine for what I do) with an Ovation Deacon/Breadwinner.
My screen name is what I use at my other home on the web, SigForum, a similar place for those who like Sig Sauer firearms. Same deal there, where there are a lot of great gun brands out there, but Sigs are high quality and work well all the time, just like an Ovation. My small gun collection includes a 1943 Sauer K98K rifle.
For the record, here in Utah it is legal to carry openly. I do so with some regularity in the warmer weather, though not in crowded places like the mall where some idiot might try to take the gun or create a verbal confrontation. Out on the trail, though, or in camp playing my Ovation, you'll see my Sig on hip. Keeps the negative comments about my singing to a minimum! |
