Location: Alabama | Owning your first Ovation. Just took delivery of my new Elite 1778, I'm so happy I just wanted to tell someone. What a beautiful instrument. I've been playing a friends old Balladeer for many years, now I finally own an Ovation of my own. Life is Good. :D |

Location: 6 String Ranch | Guitars are funny like that. I've just taken my 1984 C-Series out of a 10 year hibernation and it still is F#@*^%NG amazing. You gotta love a bar chord on the 15th fret. |

Ha! I understand that comment. Played backup for a friend last night and insisted we do one particular tune because I capo the 9th fret. I normally never get to do that! Someday I'm gonna string my old Legend, Nashville and then try that tune capo'd that high. |

i guess the c series is the long neck, que no? i am always trying to play our stuff at the club in a different position than the singer does, and a long neck could be a cool way to get a sound that was distinctive. i also like lots of bass runs to strengthen the drive sound like with "spider and the fly". ever since the recent posts about long neck guitars, i'm a thinkin'...................
besides i'd have to stop in austin to see mark and sit in the longbranch under a set of longhorns, with a lonestar longneck in front of me and an ovation longneck on my knee singing a long version of "along the rio grande' ". |

The 84 C-Series was the first SS elite style. This is the proto #1, we made two both with bearclaw tops. This was natural and the #2 was charcoal stain. The final decision was to go straight grain spruce with the charcoal stain. This one has been one of my favorite guitars since 1983 when it was made. Walnut binding and the top has aged nicely. It originally had a brown bowl but I had it painted black when I put in an OP-24. That was in 85 I think(whenever the OP24 came out) The other hot thing about it is the bone saddle. Costs a C note to machine but it's worth it. It makes it much more alive. The tension rod blew out the back of the neck about 10 years ago and it sat for a few years. Then I'm walking through the service dept one day and see a few extra 84 C-Series necks. I picked the one closest to what I had, (fattish V) and they switched it. Then I moved to Fla and it sat in a hangar for 4 years and just recently found the light of day again. I brought it out to test the Ashdown Reso-1 amp I got. Also to try a new saddle which is made from corian. I don't know if it's machined or moulded but it works just like the bone.

Location: 6 String Ranch | Don't know. It was up under the first fret where the rod hooks around the kbar. The hook just started straightening out. At least that's what I assume, I never cut it up. I wanted to use it for a pattern for another neck cause I love the shape. That's why it sat for a few years with the blowout. Of course now I've got the replacement neck and I don't work there anymore and can't find the neck but I'm still saving it for that future date when all this will happen. You all klnow how this goes, don't ya? |
