Location: Melbourne Australia | Hi, I hope you don't mind this newbie dropping in a topic but I am in Oz and picked an Ovation 1621-1 on ebay a couple of years back.
I was hoping to ask the forum if they can give me some insights and history on this model please.
Thanks Chris |

One o' deze? Except yours would be sunburst...
I'd have to dig it out to really check, but I believe that this was made around 1973 or so.
I got it for about $265 in 2006.
It is my first USO... Up til then all I had was a Korean Balladeer and a coupla Celebrities.
Mine has a teeny finish crack under the strings and one below the bridge, but otherwise it's perfect.
Okay... I went and dug-it-out... After maybe a month in it's case it was still in tune.
By ear, and according to the machine.
Strangely enough, my 1121... it's acoustic-only cousin... Sounds better. Also, the bracing inside both my 1621 and 1121 is painted black. I have never looked inside with a mirror to see if the whole thing is black in there. They both have the same bracing and Artist bowl, but I think that my 1121 is older with hand-laid fiberglass... I cannot see the cords inside the 1621.
My 1621 does sound good through the amp. With the single knobbie pre-amp I just get what I get. No EQ gymnastics.
Well, that's my history.
If you look in the 'reference' price section you will find that these were made from '71 to '82.
Also, under 'links' you may find some more info at "Ovation Gallery", and "Ovation Tribute."

I noticed you've already joined the 'Downunder' group.
Damn, I'll have to change the photo.
The Oz 'O' infection is slowly spreading from SE Qld, through NSW to Victoria. Hopefully, one day, we'll get to have a really BIG OzOFC 'gathering'.
I suggest AJ's place. (Or up here)
Oh, about your guitar? Haven't got a clue. |

Sorry I didn't think to add a photo but if you go to this link you can see it anf the other Ovation I have.

When it arrived from interstate it had a crack through the next which I had repaired by an excellent luthier in Melbourne called Jim Cargill. He also replaced the electronics and pickups which were shot - the poor thing wasn't kept well and only played as an acoustic.
Earlier this year I went to Queensland for a holiday and when I came home found the neck had split again in the same place.
When I took it back to Jim we worked out that over time the head straightened up slightly and the case was pushing down on it, using the brace inside as a leven and doing it damage - I have since had the case slightly modified to allow for this straightening.
Has anyone else know of this happening??
Have a great one - Chris |

There has to be more than 6 of us down here somewhere?? I have a good mate with 2 Ovations who introduced me to them (I fell in love with the sound of his deep bowl acoustic) and when he gets back from holidays will insist he join so don't update the photo yet!!
I will be going backwards and forwards to Yatala in Qld over the next couple of monts and staying up there for about a week for work in Nov/Dec if any of you live nearby.
I have to say I have a bit of the Monday Morning Blues this morning :-(
Cheers

Chris, FYI, AJ and Richard are in Brisbane. I'm up the north end of the Sunshine Coast.
Watto is just south of Port Macquarie. |

Location: Melbourne Australia | I was in Moollloolaba for holidays in January. Arrived on the 2nd and flew back to Melbourne on the 3rd. My wife couldn't stand the rain but we then spent a great week up there at the end of April.
When I am up in Nov/Dec I will let you guys know and we may be able to catch up in Brisbane |
